Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

If you use a truck as a truck, then I don't know how you could have a significantly lowered one. Seems like you lose a lot of cargo capacity. Considering how much gas our trucks pig, I would not use mine for anything but truck purposes. But each to his or her own.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

If I wanted a low vehicle I'd buy a car. I drive 2 miles of dirt to get to pavement, crappy roads then. And I don't slow down or dodge for pot holes.
My favorite is 1/2 tons with 16" wheels to help fill up the wheel well, or light 3/4 tons.

I do appreciate the effort ant thought it takes to do a great looking lwered truck. But my 1/2 ton is just right - I hook a cheekd on the seat and slide across the vinyl without having to bend my stiff old knees much.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

Depends on the rims and tires.
I have steel wheels and dog dishes on my stepper, and stock height just looks best to me.
For now.

If I can find some classic-looking rims that are wider, I'd lower the stance a little. Best of both worlds I'd find a pair of stock steel rims and have them widened for 10" rears.
Different strokes....

I lowered mine I did not go extreme like alot of people it was just the sport kit from beltech makes it a little lower in the front and makes the back level. I use stock height tires honestly I don't like the ride but I like the look. funny thing is when I lowered my 76 it ended up being close to the ride height as my stock 86 of course the back of the 86 is taller. the man reason I lowered it was to level out the back and get rid of the hug space between the wheel and the bed. I've been thinking alot out un lowering my truck for a long time to get some ride quality back

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

Is it possible to be in the middle lol, I wouldn't slam a truck on the ground but i found my truck at sock height was too high, especially for a 2 wheel drive. I went 2'' in the front and 4'' in the rear and I think it sits just right. I can haul and tow just fine.

Keith seymour's truck was my inspiration.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

Lowered like Telecasterjoeys truck is about as low as I would go. Stock height for 4wd is my preferance, thats why I removed the 4" lift from my recently purchased 85 K5 Blazer.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

I like the low look of 2wd squares, but with 15-16" wheels. Not a fan of anything bigger than 17's on anything. Looks out of place on an old truck IMHO (No offense to anyone). I also love a lifted 4x4 with 15-16" wheels.

this is about as low as you can go with a static drop and still have a working truck. i would still like to raise the bad flow so my dif doesnt hit any more lol

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

my truck laid pinch with 22's and I never once had a problem with not fitting something in the back. had multiple dirt bikes, a bed full of lumber, helped move a friend with it.. anything you can think of. the height of the suspension doesn't restrict to load capacity, the way the truck was built does. as far as going off road.. well most people that live in the city don't own a truck for that reason. I never ran into a situation where I needed to go somewhere where I couldn't. and, Its hard for some people to grasp the concept but, most people that have trucks didn't buy them to go off roading in. the ones that do, don't use stock trucks for the most part. they alter the suspension. sometimes adding lifts, roll cages and spare tire racks that ALSO restrict the use of the bed.

This topic pops up every few months. If the OP would have just used the search function he could have seen that most people on the forum customize there trucks to their liking. and that most of this forum agrees that just because you are attracted to the looks of a truck instead of a car it doesn't mean you have to constantly be hauling something to justify it.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

I love mine low but I had a stock hight truck once with no swaybar and said there is no excuse for driving a truck that could be put handled by a school bus. If anything if I want to use my truck like a truck I see no reason for two feet clearance on a 2wd a 3-4 drop works for me and if anything I think it should have come from the factory like that

I agree, stock height and at least 8x15" wheels, maybe 10x15 looks good.. love that blue/gray truck in the photo!

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

I think that stock height on 275/60/15s all the way around is an unbeatable look in my opinion. My 72 cheyenne and 78 shorty chevy sport van on rallys have this treatment.

Re: Anyone else prefer stock ride height?

im keeping mine stock for the originality of it, my last 85 was 3/5 drop on 17's and I loved it, Jimmy was 6" lift on 36's......myself.....I just want a change on this one and to me that equals non-modified suspension.

I like being able to change my oil without a floor jack. Much easier to work on at stock height or higher.

I started out wanting to stay at stock height but after looking at lots of lowered trucks I changed my mind and lowered it... I like it, If you like it thats all that matters!
