Re: Air bag installation

I got them from Classic Parts. They were like $50 more than a set of the stock type. I had a 72, and the arms on it were rusted through. Before I sold it, I swapped the trailing arms (and all the other good 5 lug, disc brake, power steering type pieces, lol).

Re: Air bag installation

your front is super easy to bag. do you have speindles already? can you weld/cut steel? i can walk you through step by step. it really only costs about 250 dollars to bag the front of a chevy. (air bags are around 89 dollars each)

of course this is no compresser/valves, just bags and gettin them in there, making your truck go up and down.

Thanks man I appreciate the kind words. It will be a while before I do the install. I'll start gathering parts soon though.

Yeah I got some fab skills. Used to work for Cozad Trailers building heavy haul trailers and was an iron worker for years so I is a certified welder as well All I need is some measurements and what thicknesses for the steel and I can def make the pieces up. Could get some widths and measurements for hole placement and the such?

Re: Air bag installation

He's right, it would be super easy to make your own stuff, especially for a "certified welder", lol. All you would really need is your bags and some plating, and a piece of pipe. You just have to decide how much you are willing to cut and modify your stock pieces. I could unbolt my upper plates, pull the bags and go back with stock springs if I wanted, but mine won't go as low as some. If you can come up with a set of a arms (lower) you could cut them, and install your pipe, and just swap out when you're ready. I just didn't want to cut mine because I didn't know if I would like the bags or not, but the lower bag cups that come with the PB kit are pretty low, lower than some of the ones that people have to cut down.

That's 26.85" tall for front rollers & should put the a-arm bushing pivot points on the dirt.

Thats the same size tire I'm running on my '67 with McGaughy's drop spindles and you can see where the arms are hitting the deck here. You wouldn't be able to fit a cigarette under the crossmember here either. Plus, the tires hit the inner fender wells about the same time.

It's not too pretty, but it's a driver, and I built it myself....and after seeing these, I see my photography skills are about as good as my truck building skills.....LACKING.

Re: Air bag installation

Shawno, these guys are tellin' the truth. My Contol arms are stock, I have 2.5" McGaughy spindles and a 29" tall tire. If I had a similar size, my bushings would be real close. HMMM, I think I have a set of 215's, with skinny whitewalls on the carhat the engine blew in on my way home from SoKY Classics tonight.
Steve, I really like your truck, brother!
