Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

48 GMC BURB, Thank you. Glad you like it. I thought the front suspension was the earlier one.

98layinframe, I built the whole bender and the dies. It has a 20 ton air over hydraulic cyclinder so you just hold the trigger. Yes, I cut both sides like that and it slid right up. That was after I had my boxing plates in.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Larry Lindley, Thank you. Believe it or not I have not drank a bit yet!

99 to Life, Thank you. Each build I do seem to kick it up a bit. Always learning. This is the first corvette suspension I ever did. It is amazing how many things that need to be looked at for the rear suspension. I spent the evening looking up different things with it last night.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

The temperature was around 27 today and windy as hell so when did I decide to measure a corvettes suspension? I spent a half hour measuring and checking the angles on it. Then went to my buddies who has a rotex hole punch. I punched out some blanks to fill all the holes in the frame. Then coped and tacked in the upper layer of the transmission cross member. I did not have the transmission so I made a 1/4" plywood template so I could check for the fit. Tomorrow I am going to start bending the lower layer.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

oldman3,chev3600,98layinframe, No doubt. I do not know what they were thinking when they put them all in. The blanks will make it a little easier. I use a magnet to hold them in while I tack them. Then remove it and weld them up.

99 to Life, Yes, it is a LT1 and I am sure I will make the motor mounts. That will be a little yet .The rear end install is going to be very soon.

solidaxel, Thank you . Hope you enjoy.

Worked on it for 2 hrs yesterday and I bent one lower and coped in the spacers. Then this morning bent the other one, fit tem and tacked it all in. It gets a lower cross brace for a drive shart loop yet. I think it looks killer. I told my wife, boy if I could change mine to be like this, and she just looked at me. Here are some pictures.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

99 to Life, oldman3, ChuckDriver, Thank you

48 GMC BURB, Thank you. I hope you like it, seing how it is yours. HAHA

Well here is the lastest. I boxed the rear 8" of the rear section of the frame and put a 1 5/8 tube across the back. Then got ride of the factory rear cross member. THEN welded in slugs for the 5 million factory holes on the sides of the frame. Fixed the slots that I cut in the frame to get the front cross member in and finished welding it in. Then cut back the radiator support and got rid of the back portion. Boxed the frame from were I stopped to the radiator support. Then cut out the rack cut outs. Once that was cut I did not like that the cross section of the frame, it was only a little over 1". So I bent up some 1 5/8 at a 90 degrees and cut it back to fit from the bottom of the cross member to the bottom of the radiator support. Now it is strong again. I thought if you would hit something (god forbid) the front section of the frame would fold under. So now onto the rear suspension. I have to make some pieces to recontour the frame rails for the suspension. I can not wait to see it on its wheels.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Nice work Shannon. I am getting close to tear down on my 52 and boxing the frame. There are a lot of holes on an S10 frame also. Not looking forward to it. I know that when the truck is done and I am telling people about the truck, 95% will not even look under the truck!

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

oldman3, Thank you.

SSABMUD, They do put enough holes in them. I punched out slugs and it made it go easy. Either unibit or die grind the holes to get the rust out and they weld in good. I used a magnet to hold the slugs. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But yes I know wht you mean, they will not look. And they probably will not even realize they were holes there. Your truck looks great. I love all the suttle modifications you did.

48 GMC BURB, HAHA I do love work with it.I should know how big of one after the weekend. I can make one if you want, either out of steel or SST. I can put baffles in it and TIG weld it together.

Last night I figured out what I have to do with the frame. I will raise it up about 4.5 inches so that I can keep my 6 inch ride height. I am going to make it out of 1/8 plate and weld it all together. That way I can keep it the same width of the factory frame. The front section will taper from 6" to 4" and the rest will be 4". I will use 1 5/8 tube for the cross braces and tie in the rear end nose mount also. Then try to tie into the transmisson cross member.
