Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I went to town and spent way too much money. Bought a 2.0 gun for primer, urethane primer, sandpaper and a sanding block kit.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Yeah, it seems like even specialty tools end up getting used more than expected. This truck has really made me expand my tool collection. Its at the point again where I am going to have to make more storage. And thats only my body work stuff!

No updates for a bit. It was -40 with wind chill today, and we are going skiing tomorrow.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Wow! Just caught this. Great job. I guess I posted a silly question about your axle swap. I'll try not to ask any more, can't promise though.?

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Any luck with the mounts, interested in how it turns out, the panhard mainly. May copy onto a 65.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I think I will end up cutting the old ones off. The panhard bar will be a homemade job, based on one I saw on this board, but I cant find it anymore.

I rebuilt the brakes, and sandblasted the rear end.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
You gonna replace the races for the axle bearings? I use a long pipe and go in from say the driver side to knock the passenger side out and visa-versa. The panhard on the 65 is on the axle with a longer bar. My 69 parts truck is on the pumkin. Thinking I may grind all three off one of my 65's and sell the other axle as a whole.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
That was the idea I had too for the axle bearings. I would do the same if I had the choice with the axles. My truck also jas the panhard on the pumpkin, but it is super short and it seems like the radial deflection would be less with a longer one.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I started on the bedside while waiting for better temps to finish sandblasting the frame. I waspanning on just sanding til I found solid metal and weld in patch panels, and then I found bondo. There are two major dents. The one that is behind the wheel well doesnt look like much and is fairly shallow. The one in front, however, seems to go the full height of the bedside because I can feel a ripple in the bondo, and knew there was a dent above the body line before. The picture with the straight edge is the one in front.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I got the materials together for my new panhard bar and lowering blocks. The steel cost me $7 because I know the guy and he gave me some scraps. The rod ends were $85, but I still have to get weld in nuts and jam nuts. I also removed the rear end and the shocks. The bolts were seized in the bushings so I removed the rivets to pound them out on the bench. I gotta say, as long as you have good access those rivets arent bad, bur as soon as they become tough to reach with a drill they are nearly impossible to remove.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I started on my lowering block/panhard bar mounts. I also wire wheeled the rear shocks and removed the old panhard bar mount from the frame.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Im waiting on a 3/4" drill bit, so I figured I should see what kind of shape the passenger side bedside was in. I started at the back, sanding a line along the length, and it aas all good until I got to about a foot from the front. Apparently, somewhere along the line, the bedside was patched by someone with very little patience, who warped the **** out of it. I think I will be able to cut it out and weld part of the drivers side one in which I have decided is garbage.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I picked up an intake manifold off of kijiji, and got the pass. side trailing arm and spring off, however, I could not get the driver side spring off because the bolt in top was seized, anf I ended up stripping the head of the bolt. I think I will carefully cut the spring retainer bevause it is rusted out anyways.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I guess the theme of this build is small steps. I got more parts removes, but found rust holes. I think the c-notch Im getting from a friend will be sufficient bracing, but the crossmember braces are also rusted through and I will have to repair them. I did get the shocks painted, but no pics, and I also did manage to remove the last driver side coil spring. The motivation is a little low, and I only have 3 months if I want to drive it all summer.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Well, last week friday I rolled her outside and blasted the new found rust. Sunday I did some measuring and not much else abd today I cut the frame for the cpp c notch my buddy gave me. We have been swapping parts and time. I am planning on getting a 50 box of grade 8 bolts to put it all together again. I also repainted the shocks.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Today I cut the c-notch on the other side, and made axle to trailing arm mounts. For the axle mounts, I made up a template on cad and printed it off, then cut it out and used magnets to clamp it down. I then spray painted around it and used the paint as a line.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
Laat week I picked up some parts from mopac in edmonton, and also ordered an eaton positraction which came in on Tueaday. Yesterday I built the lower panhard bar mount, and I started setting up the rear end.

Re: Keepin' It in Budget build
I got the frame primed yesterday. Im working on painting it right now. Our family is going on vacation, so no progress after the frame is painted for a week or so.
