Re: Long fleetside cut down to short fleetside project

Nice work. I have been working on my step-side for months now. Just down to fitting my wood and blocking the bed out. I want to get it fitted before I paint it. The bed isn't that straight along the angle strips from being a farm truck. The angle strips were hard to get it straight enough to look right. I am going to cut the wood out myself. Thanks for your inspiration. Your truck looks good!

Could you get a wood kit for a swb bolt it down in the long bed and have the correct measurments for cutting the sections ? just a thought

Re: Long fleetside cut down to short fleetside project

That would only give you the overall length. It would still be 12" short in the front and 8" in rear. I did use the swb wood length (77 1/8") as a double check before I welded it though.

Re: Long fleetside cut down to short fleetside project

I've heard you can do it without removing cab. I've also heard, if you do it, to make a Z cut for strengh. Do NOT just do a straight cut. I've seen pics. I'll try to find them and post them up. Can't remember if they were on this site or not.

Re: Long fleetside cut down to short fleetside project

Yes it would be. I wouldn't even consider shortening the frame with the cab in place. That would just complicate getting the frame back together straight and square.

Re: Long fleetside cut down to short fleetside project

notsolo- Thanks. The interior is "simple but functional" and not finished by a long shot. I want to put a stock cluster back in the dash and get rid of the Autometer guages. Also have a cheap set of buckets I want to get rid of and put a stock bench back in. The engine is dirty from the bodywork so heres an older one..

Im not too worried about straight and square. I have a Farme machine to do the work on for measuring...its the welding the top of the frame proper i would be more worried about
