Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
Frame is off to get sand blasted and powder coated - matte black for the frame and a chrome alloy for the cross members - trailing arms and bridge assembly - hoping the front cross member and control arms are here soon from porterbuilt - would love to get to a rolling chassis state by the end of the month but not looking good right now.

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
Sweet! Just got mine to the media blaster a couple days ago. I have some patching to do in the floor, one door and at the bottom of both fenders...

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
he offered off to media blast everything but the cab for $300 - seems like a pretty good deal (left the cab out because I'm just done - have half the roof inside the cab to do - everything else is already done). My doors are in good shape after picking a couple off craigslist - but not sure what I'll find the rest of the way around this thing.

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
i found a saw mill with several seasoned walnut logs laying around and i had them rough cut a dozen board for me cost me 65 bucks then took those to the local high school wood shop and had them planed and milled to match the originals.

Seasoned walnut - I bet those look great. Do you have a build thread - I would love to see how those turned out.

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
the porterbuilt front stuff showed up today - excited but know that I'm opening boxes and turning around and dropping everything at powder - ready for a rolling chasis - hung the driver's side door that I have been working on - finally got it to line up the way I want - going to drill some so I can repeat again later and hopefully if the weather plays along this weekend I can get some primer down on the cab and doors - need to get some progress pics up of the frame powder coated and the porterbuilt rear all mocked up.

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
Thanks guys - starting to get some things primed - two front fenders are done - passenger side door - have a little more paint to strip on the drivers door - but very happy with how the passenger one turned out.
Definitely not a lot of us NJ guys on here but there's a guy with a 65 stepside - I've seen him everywhere this summer 3 car shows in the 4th of july parade - he's keeping me motivated

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
Went down to bare metal - so I'm coming back up with a self etching primer by martin senor - and then I'll use some high build primer after that and block. I can't decide on a color to save my life - change my mind just about daily at this point.

Re: 64 StepSide - Let's the games begin
Alright - so adding my new wheels and tires to the build - I also started bending new brake lines for the front - also realized that I'm going to need new brake hoses with this thing being bagged - I can get enough play in the hose going up and down but not if it's all the way up or down and the wheel needs to turn left or right... just when you feel like you are closing in on it something new pops up - oh and found a place that can shorten and balance my drive shaft - the couple places folks had recommended had gone out of business - hard economy I guess.
