Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
I can hear you on that harassment in my own way. My grandfather had a 54 chevy pickup and the city was about to tow it because a neighbor reported it as abandoned. Latter on they pulled the same stunt with the 70 chevy c10. Wish we still lived there because the 47 in my profile pick would be in the garage with the door open when I was at home working on it. Another neighbor started his own auto repair shop across the street and got shut down because customers did not pick up there vehicles when they were supposed to. This lady would hate me. Two generations of car and truck enthusiasts (my father and grandfather) raised me.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
OK now make a list of things you gotta do
Then make a list of what you wanna do Don't wander around and do things to pretty it up before you get it so it's safe to drive. Concentrate on one thing at a time- do it right the first time because it's cheaper to do things right than it is doing 2 or 3 times before you do it RIGHT. OH YEAH I'm happy for you that you have your grandfathers truck, Fix it up as a memorial for him. |

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
So glad this is turning out good. Get it running and charging, look for major electrical problems. Check headlights, signals, etc. Pull the drums and make sure it stops. Check for bad oil or other fluid leaks. Make sure it has antifreeze so you aren't into a new engine next spring. Then hit the wish list and start saving your money.
Do not be surprised if you feel your Grandfather sitting it the seat next to you when you drive, there is a lot of residual energy in that old metal...

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Y'all have no idea, how it felt to buy it and watch it on the loader. The kid put new Brake lines, and tires on it..put new coil, spark plugs etc..It needs an alternator to make it run.I found a old flash light that my pawpaw used to use back when..made me smile, it even had the old license plate dating back to 1986

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Thank you, already love this truck !!!
What is great, the Trucks Original Tailgate is actually saveable It needs a lot of patch work, and welding here and there. I need to do some patch work around the Headlight holders Here is my other ride, well its my Uncle's it'll be mine one day

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
If it has the round ones, I think they are repoped. The other styles are not, so start saving up, when they do show up they are pricey. On the show American Pickers I have seen them walk by rusted out GMC pickups with the grille and lenses intact and wondered if they know what they are worth. In the mean time you can run amber bulbs.

You haven't shown what's under the hood of your truck, have you? I like the MG!

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Congratulations on finally getting the truck, Schrum. You've waited a long time for it. Now that you have it don't take it all apart planning a full restoration. Fix what it needs to be drivable and have fun driving it.
From a former MGB owner, leave that MG in the field where it's at. You don't want to even start trying to make that thing a reliable driver. They weren't even reliable when they were new, LOL. |

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
I totally agree with Russell, Besides, I think your truck looks great just the way it is~ like a blast from the past! Having a really nice looking truck like a show truck(mines not a show truck), it's a lot of upkeep. I suppose we each have our limitations (money mainly?) to make the truck/car of our dreams. You can keep your truck for a very very long time and make it a long term ongoing project (as they're never really finished)~ plus the history of your truck is precious

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
I was joking about the MG, my grandfather owned many of them and they all had issues.I had to cover up my truck today due to possible Snow, due to other things in the garage now I am not able to put it in the Garage like I'd like to.I plan on fixing the rust issues and then leaving it all "original", I picked up the Original '59 Gmc Rims from the Bus Garage where they were sitting, it still had the Original light green on them.@Denee It looks wonderful under the hood..The engine is re-painted, and so is the Transmission. Its all clean looking.Still has the Glass Fuel filter on it.I couldn't find the muffler and low and behold it was under the cab
![]() I have the Original Driving Documents from the Factory, with the Comic 50's style advertisement telling what to do with your new "GMC" and other things it came with..The Original Tailgate is savable.I have some issues, as I will disclose soon once I get it running. The Generator needs rebuilding, and it needs a Battery THAT IS ALL !!!. It felt wonderful to have the Original Rims back, and its pretty much how it was when my pawpaw parked in back in '86. I just wish I knew what the original color for the Dash(I assume the Light Green color), and the doors(which I think was gray, due to the hinge covers).Since my truck came with Deluxe Molding, could it have come with the Deluxe heater?, it has a heater under the passenger side dash..although I can't seem to open the Glove box back open. The "GMC" Grille has some holes through the Chrome and is really rusty, I think its beyond repair but i'd like find another somewhere online Once I get the money for the Generator rebuild, and a Battery I'll update some more..I'll post some pictures I took when I brought it home That MG Midget, used to be white. It has an aftermarket Hardtop on it...One day I'd like to get it running

I'm looking for them, I understand they're rare mine were broke when the PO took them out of the truck...sucks badly.I need to know what color the Headlight Bezels color was on a Chrome packaged truck If my Truck had the Deluxe molding, would it have had the GMC Deluxe heater?
