Slowly cleaning up the engine bay, ran some a/c hoses. Still need ideas for a cleaner intake.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Thanks Jim.
Alaska- the wiper motor is a surplus boat motor from a website I found on this board. The linkage is a stock 54 linkage, with a collar welded to the pivot bracket. It functions well enough, but I've noticed that there is a lot of slop in the stock parts. I'm looking into replacements, but the stock linkage is tough to find. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I hadn't thought of that one yet. The parts seem to be a pot metal type material, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to drill it out. Certainly not afraid to try! I think I've got a couple spare parts, maybe I can dig in this weekend. Thanks for the ideas.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Hey, good looking build so far. Ive got a 51 that Im going to put a LQ4 in. did you have to build any trans tunnel in your truck? Ill have a 4l85. Im jealous, I can get enough time to do much to mine right now so I have to live it out through what I see on This site.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I wanna see these wipers in action. I seen that motor on ebay for like 60 bucks, looks like a very simple setup you got. Sure seems like it would beat paying 150-200 for a newport kit which seems to take up more room.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Chev3600, great looking build you have going on here. Does your wiper motor use a rocker switch like this one?

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I didn't use the model with the rocker switch built in. Not sure how you could reach it. I used a hot rod wiper switch in the stock location on the dash. Probably going to use the one on the turn signal lever eventually. I'd still like to build a better linkage then the stock one, as there is a little more slop than I would like. If I could figure out how to post a video....

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I didn't have to do much of a tunnel. I just redid the trans cover to accommodate a lokar shifter, but prior to that the floor was pretty much completely flat. Just split the floor and raised the stock hump about 1/2".

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Wiper vid? Maybe? You can see that they don't go all the way down to the cowl during normal operation. The major selling point of that motor was the self park feature and it works fine. But... When stopped I can push the wiper arms the rest of the way down to the bottom of the windshield by hand. It looks better down.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I have a few questions for you. Did you get the 3 or 4 row champion radiator? With the electric fan attached how thick is your radiator/fan assembly? I'm using the truck accessories too and my cab is off so I'm trying to get some measurements to place the motor. I don't have the radiator yet but if I place my engine off the radiator location then I should be able to make it close enough to avoid firewall mods.
Also, I am using an explorer 8.8 and I want to use leafs. Did you use the explorer leafs?

Re: 49/54 LS driver
I don't recall which core, but it's not a 4 core. It's 2 1/2 inches thick.
I'm not running an electric fan, but where my engine is placed, you could comfortably run any electric fan 3 inches deep or shorter. I also tilted the radiator forward at the bottom just a bit. I'm running s10 rear springs and hangers because I had them laying around. Really, my placement was based on desire to run mech fan and use an unmodified s10 driveshaft.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Solid- is there a way to remove the switch and extend the wires to a nicer switch?

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Awesome build man. Are those the stock truck manifolds? Did they clear the steering okay? Also, did you have to move the ac compressor up or were you able to get it to fit with it sitting low? I am just starting to look into the LS engine swap for my 50 chevy.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
Actually, nevermind. going back I see you have a front clip on yours. I am running the stock frame. Probably just going to have to stab it in and see what we come up with.

Re: 49/54 LS driver
No matter the frame, stock truck manifolds likely won't clear. I used trailblazer SS ones and it's still tight. Good luck!
