Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
hey guys - had another productive day in the shop yesterday. the progress is less visual, but that means we're getting closer to blowing the burban back apart to move toward final assembly.
Stuff done this round: headers removed/put back on (trialed a different set) ready for exhaust column shift linkage hooked up rear bumpers sucked up, mounted to frame under dash mounting plate built for electrical, ecm, etc. brake master cylinder and resevor mounted drive shaft ordered newer style upper and lower control arms ordered reconfiguring the radiator was discussed other misc items where done, but i was there on 5hrs of sleep so... Our plan is get together (just the boys) and reorganize the shop a little. draw up a plan of attack for the truck as we inch closer to pulling the body from the frame. next meeting for the group is April 20th. Thanks for all the support and reading - John (and the rest of the Jutte's)

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
Hey man. I think it is just too cool what you are doing for your dad. I've heard way too many stories of peoples parents or grandparents passing away and they just scrap the projects or cars they had sitting around instead of doing something with them. Can't wait to see more progress later this year.

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
This isn't the only thing laying around either! We still have a 71 suburban to get to and a two door and a four door 39 Chevy. Plenty of things to keep us busy!

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
Well, its been too long, but we've put a couple saturdays in on the burb. The last couple times we got together we worked on the following:
gas lines ran fuel pump installed gas tank was put in place lines were connected to the motor. seat brackets designed fabbed up a valance for under the dash. The general goal was to get the sub running on it's own power. Then we would get the truck to our painter, seperate the body and frame, work on brake lines, exhaust, and other suspension changes. Then get the frame painted, the underside of burban taken care of, and then put them back together for final paint. Anyway... today we had fun with the motor. We got everything plumbed and the power hooked up, but the motor wouldn't stay running. We found some vacuum leaks, fixed them, no go. checked injectors for power, checked fuel pressure, checked plugs for spark and it was all good... the motor fired but just wouldn't run. we finally found all 8 injectors were not pumping gas through. after some top secret cleaning (and banging around) we got them working. well, most of them anyway. I got to crank it over and BOOM! It fired right up and ran. We did it couple times and one more time before everyone left. Damn, it's been a long time coming for all of us (the boys, the club guys, everyone...). it was awsome.

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
My LT1 sat for quite a few year before I started it. It ran rough and sounded like an old Harley. You can tap on the injectors to free them (as it sounds like you did) but the biggest improvement I found was to swap out the injectors with a clean set. It made a world of difference.
I found someone on EBay that had a cleaning service. I bought a set from them and gave them my old set to knock some of the cost down. Nice progress. Marc

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
A couple guys from the club helped load up the burb today, so we can take it to our body man tomorrow (a fellow club member too). Farthest the suburban has been out of the shop in a long time...
Plus, a couple killer square bodies helping us out...

Re: 1948 Suburban - finishing what dad started...
well, originally it was the purple you see on the front wheels for the bottom and a pearl on the top. It sounds like mom wants a darker purple and maybe a silver for the top, but I"m not 100%. it's whatever she wants as long as it's not neon or **** brown...lol
