Yes.
I assume they are stock replacement axles for a 71-72 truck.
My only concern is if they are "NEW" axles,... or reconditioned used axles.

Moser axles will be new.

As far as I know these are new axles built by Motive Gear. I just recieved the tracking number and it looks like we will have all the answers on Tuesday evening.

I think this is my next step, how much work is swapping the rear axles? I have already finished the disc upgrade up front (Thanks Keith!)

Looks like zero available for the shorter 30.5 axle

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Dorian, it's easy really. The biggest thing to look out for is the pin / bolt that holds them in place. Go ahead and plan on it breaking when you take it out. Most of them do.

Realizing this is not a typical carrier you'd see in your truck, this will give you an idea of how to get the bolt out. I have one of these extractor kits. If yours breaks and you want to borrow it, you're welcome to it. I think they're ~$40 to buy and you get a new bolt.

Great Article Keith.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Here is a picture of one of the axles. They look to be slightly nicer than stock, which is fine for my old farm truck.

Chad, they didn't come with studs, my CPP brake kit will have them, so no measurement, sorry.

Seems to me, when I compare them to the axles I received from ECE that these are comparable if not a little nicer (appearing). Once I receive my CPP disc brake kit, get the rear end installed, and take it for a ride I will give a final review. But so far they look to have been a pretty good deal.

It's too bad they don't sell them for the short rear axle.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

So for a 1968 stock 5x5 lug conversion I would need the axles listed at this link, correct?

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...-gear_99985987

Getting ready to order the parts if so. Got to get this thing on the road again

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Hey dorian, if you look closely at the description of the item in the link you provided, they are replacement 6 Lug axles. The ones Buck and I ordered were 5 lug and for the longer 70-72 rear end. He swapped out his original read end for the wider one to clear up some wheel fitment issues with his custom wheels. I don't think Motive Gear makes the shorter axles in 5 Lug.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Looks like it should. I'm still pretty new to all this. I do know that Chad "CC69Rat" used Moser axles to do his swap.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Use Dorman wheel studs, part number 610-298.1

1/2 x 20.

These are for the longer 70+ rear end housing. 31 5/16 long from the end of the splines to the mounting surface of the axle. ( where the wheel makes contact)

The earlier axles are 30 1/2 in long at this same point

For the short 67-69 rear end, not as inexpensive as the long rear end axles but not a bad price, $116.95 ea.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Not as good of a price as the Summit or Moser, but Advance does offer the shorter axles in 5 lug. If you sign up for the the Advance "Speed Perks" program, they are regularly offering coupons.

States on their site under the "Description" tab:

Product Features:
AXLE SHAFT 65-69 12 BOLT 8 7/8 30 1/2" 2 & 4WD 6 LUG TO 5 LUG CONV

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/m...d=1#fragment-2

Also, if you select the "specifications" tab, this is what you see:

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

im looking for 1970 shafts for my c10 to convert it to 5 lug. Between moser, motive, alloy, dorman, etc... they all have conflicting information on the lengths of the shafts. It seems people say 2wd is 31-5/16 and 4wd is 31-9/32 for the lengths

search on Motive Gears site for a 2wd truck and you get results for 31-9/32 (.2812) GM part number 14017151. Do a search for 4wd and you get results for 31-5/16 (.3125) GM part number 14017150. Which seems backwards.

search mosers catalog and you get 70-81 2wd is 31-5/16 5 lug and 4wd is 31-9/32 6 lug. Which seems right.

Search superior axles and you get 2wd 14071751 31-5/16" and 4wd is 14071750 31-9/32"

Search for 2wd on advance auto’s page and you get motive’s 31.28125” length says fits 2wd gm part number 14071751. Click dormans from the advance site and its part number 630-128 and if you search that on dormans site it says its 31.35” (close to 5/16”) Pro-king’s catalog says the AX-183 is the 5/16 and AX-182 is the 9/32 which seems right.

Basically if someone can definitively confirm that the 5/16” is the right length for a 2wd axle, I can just ignore the suggested fitment crap from all the websites and get the shafts as per the companies length listing (except motive’s they seem backwards right on their own website which I think is what threw off all the dealers sites) I would measure it myself but I just bought the truck and don’t even have it in my garage yet, I am stocking up on parts for when it gets here.
