Re: Electric vehicle conversion Gotta see it!

Keith...pros and cons of electric motors? I heard the charge of the batteries doesn't last very long. You definetly can't take the car to your average shade tree mechanic. And all the money you save on gas you spend on electricity bills.

Pro - instant torque. Results in a peppy car even with the additional weight. Quiet and clean operation.

Con - heavy, and expensive; limited range. In the case of the Chevy Volt it's roughly 40 miles (after that the gasoline generator kicks in).

Electric bill - negative. Costs me about $1.16 to recharge. Definitely cheaper than gasoline.

Re: Electric vehicle conversion Gotta see it!

Kieth, when your Volt batterys get low and the gas engine come's on, does it propell the car or a generator so the electric motor can continue to operate like it does in the VIAmotor's truck ?

The generator kicks on and provides electricity so the electric motor can keep going.

The engine does not propel the car directly.

1. It will may pay for itself over time = you have to own it for your entire life!
2. Cost cheaper to maintain and own over a gas vehicle = see comment 1.
3. Cost = your house!

Word. People do themselves a disservice by choosing to remaining ignorant as a means of protest.

the VIA motors truck in the video is listed at $79,000 right now, as every thing else after there out for a while the cost will drop considerably.
$79,000 is not that far off from the same truck with out the electric option.
