Re: My 66 step-side
Just got notified my company is letting me go. Anyone want a truck? Job is true but my wife knows what the truck means to me and won't let me do it. She is a great woman.

Re: My 66 step-side
That truck looks almost like a twin to mine , even the hubcaps ! My hubcaps are held on with small sheet metal screws .

The first picture is from years ago shortly after painting it ! The second is a more recent shot with lots of black primer and ...well , several other colors intermingled !

Re: My 66 step-side
Nice ride. Love these body styles the best. Do know what the wheels would have come on originally? The guy I bought mine from said a vet but he also said the TH350 was good.

The wheels on my truck are from a newer model 4x4 ( 80'ish ) , they're 8 " wide and were bought new .

Re: My 66 step-side
I have seen cheap builds on here and for now that is what I am doing. I don't have the heart to sell yet and bless my wife she doesn't have it for me either. So in goes the home done exhaust. New headers, new headman mufflers and flex pipe and clamps from the auto parts store. Carpet kit from Lowe's that actually turned out pretty nice. I'll get pictures soon on exhaust and carpet. All in and all I posted it on local Craigslist for twice what I paid for it and got a few bites already. Now I can't do it. SO HERE I STAY!!!!!

Re: My 66 step-side
Today is a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!! Drove to work today.
Yes, I had to tow it home last November and today I got to drive it to work. No headlights, no wipers, no gauges, no heater, and no radio. Key turns it on but not off. Blinkers, brake and tail lights all work. What else does one need. Still lots to do but man does it sound great and I am still grinning ear to ear. |

Re: My 66 step-side
Sounds like an awesome time! There's nothing like driving these old trucks as much as possible. Glad to hear that you are keeping it.

Re: My 66 step-side
Right on.....keep it on the road. The rest of the issues will fix with time. Just has to start, stop and steer for now.

Just traded some work for the wood I need for the bed. Going with Poplar. Looks nice and should go in great. May have found my donor cab too.

Re: My 66 step-side
More pics. No donor cab yet but getting to work on the bed and covering up the rust on the current cab. Made some temp exhaust mods to mach up how I want it for cheap too. Changed to a gauge cluster and cleaned it up too. Got new wiring kit for it. Plan to attach the hole for the heater where the PO welded on a fan??? Who knows when I will actually get a donor cab and with summer coming I really need that heater.

I have learned one main thing on this forum PICTURES ARE WHAT EVERYONE WANTS. So here are a couple. Got the cab painted white and the hood to match the black.

She is a fun kid. Happy most of the time and very sweet. I had her for the day while mamma was in a class for work. She really wanted to work on the truck. |

Re: My 66 step-side
Started a business so the truck has been on the back burner. Going to fix it up and use it as advertising. That's one way to get the build done. I got an air-ride kit for it. All is here but the tank. I figure I have to pull so much off and I have a "new" cab to swap out that my build may start soon. Not doing a crazy build since it will be a driver and I don't have a ton of $$$ to dump into her right now. Lots of pics to come when I get started.
