Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

Spoke to the owner, he does have the title and he is the original owner, his son drove the truck for his first truck, he still has the original rims and white hub caps. Neither him or his son is interested in restoring it. He said it has been driven very little sinnce his son quit driving it a few years ago. It does still run, not sure how well.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

Heres how I look at it. In Michigan you could get $3,000 for that truck and the new owner would take it home and start a frame off restoration on it without even driving it or caring about the brakes or engine condition. As long as the metal is mostly solid (98 percent no matter where they are from need rockers and cab corners) then it is a good base for a restoration.

.

In Arizona, a truck like that would be a little rough and might only get $1,600. to $1,800 It depends on your geographic location as to how much these trucks are work.

It looks like a decent truck that could use a few hundred dollars to make a good safe driver. I agree with some others that say, maybe $2,500.

Watch out for rot on the inside of the cab above the windshield. I have seen them reapired but it is a lot of work.

Good luck

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

With all due respect .. why are you not hooking up the trailer yet? Seriously, if you can get it for $2500 with a clean title and the ole 307 will still turn over, bro.. buy it.

Not sure if you know, but a 307 is just a 327 with a 283 crank. Rebuild it, throw a 327 crank and rods in it and it's an easy 331 (is that right? 327 +.0030 ?) Vortec heads, 280 or so cam and an RPM intake, 700R4 and you're in the 300hp range with 15mpg or so. It would make a really good driver ! and you're right where you need to be for parts, troubleshooting, upgrades, whatever you want ..

Go get it .. One owner, brakes are not a big deal man. Rockers are easy. Get it..

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

I'm pretty sure I'll be buying the truck but i think I will offer $2500 if everything looks as it should. I didn't know that about the 307 being a 327 with a 283 crank, never had any dealings with a 307. I am working long hours right now and he isn't in a hurry to sell, plus I have to figure out how to buy this and stay married too

$200 and your time gets you there, offer $2800 and throw it on a trailer to get it home. (air the tire up of course) ..

Is the title good on it? The SWB fleet bed alone would bring $1000-$1200. Is it a wood bed? Trailing arms and coils or leafs? It's definitely worth checking out IMO. Dependable, slightly lowered , good title and a good cleaning you're looking at $5500-$6000 truck, easily.
Don't overlook the cool stuff in the bed- could be worth something too! 3$ seems fair if it runs decent- good luck

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

Well Kowboy, could be a great truck. I only warn that if that old truck doesnt show an oil pressure gauge, then $3k will be a bit high to risk. I am obviously a shorty fan. But I can tell you from experience, if you get in it and it wont at least break traction you will have a loss of power....and that equates to a new engine. wish you luck, Id love to see it done and running.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

I'm pretty sure a 307 is a 283 with a 327 crank. A 307 will have a 3.875 bore not a 4.0 bore like a 327 or 350. Good luck either way since an unmolested truck is rare to find.

The carb, plugs, clutch/trans, ignition, old gas, etc. could also result in less than full power and not require a rebuild/replacement.

Looks like a nice truck although its not a custom, its just a base model. Some don't care about that small step though and its generally not as important as condition.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

Looks like a good deal to me. Of course there is major regional opinion, in Cali that is a $1000 truck, in Canada it is a $5000 survivor. From what I know of Georgia that is a cherry specimen, look at my name and sig Georgia>rust bucket, me>idiot I paid $980 for mine with brakes that need bled, ran into the trailer before I put the ramps on. My truck also had a rebuilt 327 that magically transformed into a worn out low compression 283 by the time I got it home. I would pay $3000 in oklahoma for that in a second. I hope you get it, it looks like a fair deal from here. I would start a little lower with the negotiations though. Good luck!

Believe me, in California you could $3,000 for that! I have & it did not look as good as that one

You would get 3 grand pretty fast for that truck in California if there wasn't any rust. They are getting harder and harder to find, especially with the original paint like that one, and a desireable color to boot. I would check it over for rot, but if it is solid, I wouldn't care about the drive train, just get it and park it, start getting a list together for what you want to do, and save the money to do it. Hope that it works out for you.

If you don't find the time, someone else will. This isn't a TV at Costco you're looking at. You can't just wait for them to get more stock in next week, or drive to another store.

As far as bleeding the brakes, I don't necessarily subscribe to the notion that this indicates the guy didn't take care of other things. I'm pretty darn mechanically inclined (and take good care of my truck), and I did do a brake and rotor job on a car with someone a few years back, and I've done it on Harley's, but for some reason it seems like a pain in the ass to me, and I procrastinate it. Maybe it's because it requires your wife to pump the brake, and you have to hear her b!tch about her legs getting sore. Maybe it's because it can be finicky and get air in the lines.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.

I know it won't stay around forever. The owners son works with my dad and they aren't in any rush to sell, he knows i'm working long hours right now. he said him or his dad really aren't mechanically inclined and they ddin't want to spend the money to have it restored or fixed since they don't have any use for it.

Thing is if you heard about it someone else is going to hear about it sooner or later. If you are serious you better take the time to go look at it or it may be gone. I learned that the hard way. If it doesn't really make any difference to you then it's a moot point.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Yup. Absolutely. There was a new guy on here a few weeks ago, in a similar situation, who was asking the same basic questions. It was an extremely clean 68 that he let get away because he didn't get in there fast enough.

The truck needs a good bit of work, mostly cosmetic & brakes are no good (I don't think they just need bleeding). He threw in a few items he had purchased, all new rubber moldings, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, seat was recently recovered and looks nice (nicest looking piece of truck). the 307 does crank but needs a good tune up, I know the transmission shifts from park to reverse & drive but know how it is going to shift on the road, I used the emergency brake to load it on the trailer. Got for a good bit less than the 3k he originally wanted but still more than I was hoping for, but not a bad deal for what it is. oh the mileage is actually 81k instead of the 76k I originally posted, I think was the one that told me 76, no big deal to me tho. i'll try to get a few pictures tomorrow.

x2! Unfortunately that's the case up here. Look at it carefully, and use your best judgment. If you don't think it's worth 3k, then don't do it.

Congrats! Now that you have it home hopefully you can post some more pictures. Seems to me you got a great deal for a shorty. That truck would have listed on CL here in Texas for more than $3000
