Today I present to you an item that is so expensive and so rare that every attempt, no matter how ridiculous, must be made at their preservation. To do otherwise would be criminal.
The crowning jewel in my build, The Turbo-Hydramatic Three Fifty:

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
I'm thankfully running out of material here, save for some extra holes some one drilled here and there, mangled brake lines, and who doesn't have some part of the wiring botched in one fashion or another.
So we'll press on with the beginning of reform. First a new mill. Found a super deal on a fresh 355 with 461 heads. A quick swap of an intake and a rebuild on my Edelbrock carb, mated it with the Ultra rare highly modified Turbo Hydramatic Three Fifty and stabbed it back in, with a twist... In hopes that the driveshaft would work as-is if I put this in the 6 cyl position and save me some Pesos, I went for it. Unfortunately once there it was about a half inch too long. Not all bad though because when I picked up the driveshaft the guy who did the work said it must've shook like mad it was so out of balance. Par, just par.

Runs really good too! One good trip around the block was, unfortunately, the death blow for the Uber-rare Highly Modified Numbers Matching Turbo Hydramatic Three Fifty

If you look through the hole in the floor you will see the crime scene where the engine murdered the trans I don't know what exactly happened, my wife called me as I was on my way back to Afghanistan and told me the truck bled to death.
The concrete pad is probably stained forever as a tribute to our dear friend, TH350. <snif>

Considering the circumstances, did you play taps? 700r4 since it's apart and you have to recase?

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Taps
Actually went around and around about the replacement. The factors that drove my choice were budget, fun factor, budget, coolness, and budget. The fact that even a replacement TH350 would be about $1000-1500ish and an OD trans a good bit more made them doable but not for a while. I am saving and paying cash for everything. Then there is the elephant in the room for me... I have a distrust for automatics. Well, auto trans rebuilds anyway so a Craigslist local trans shop wasn't gonna cut it. Then I thought what would I get if I could have whatever I wanted... manual 6 speed of course! When I saw how much they were going for I soon realized that I only had enough cash for about 2 speeds. Reflecting back I remembered my 4 speed Cutlass. Loved that car, loved rowing the Muncie in it. That did it...

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Time for a little catch up as I got this a bit out of order.
The Edelbrock worked fine, my first one and first rebuild of one but I was chasing a tuning problem and happened upon a brand new Holley. So now I have a backup (Edelbrock) on the shelf. Picked up some shorties, but not entirely sure I'm gonna run them yet. Replaced the welded together column for one in great shape I got from Tim (Special K) and found some gauges and a new bezel. Also got a used Vintage Air unit but the seller just threw it in a box with some peanuts and now I have some more carnage to deal with... so what else is new?

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Found it on C-List. Guy in Scotsdale just pulled it out of his 65 Vette to do a 6 speed. Had my son go get it and yup, real deal, honest person on Craigslist. Who would have thought?
Got the shifter in the deal as well and at an amazing price. After buying the rest of what I needed I will have right at a grand in it including driveshaft work, so I am one happy camper. The trans I got is exactly what I was looking for -a wide ratio large counter-shaft M20 (spent it's life in the same place is a bonus). Why? Well, because I wanted the deep first gear so I could run a tall rear gear for the highway. If you don't know, Arizona freeways are posted 75mph, meaning of course everyone does 80+. I hate the slow lane.

Thanks! Maybe it's the English in me. I try to take things in stride and enjoy my life even when things don't seem to go well.

What are the rear tires? Brand, model, size? I like the proportions.

Hey since your not going to need an auto crossmember, would you happen to have one to get rid of?
