Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
A few random updates. I never posted a finished picture of the Jeep tailgate project
I also got the notches burned in and should have the 4 link and rear end mocked up soon. Then I need to get it narrowed, custom axle shafts and brakes, then I finally get to a rolling chassis.

Awesome! And judging by how good the tailgate conversion went this should be an quality result! Waiting for more progress!

Your truck is going to be really nice when you get it together. It is great that you have the history and reason for building your truck.
Keep up the great work and keep the updates coming, we love to see how you are progressing.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
Thanks guys. Progress has been a little slow but I should be picking up my narrowed 9" this week and ordering the shafts and brakes. I started disassembling some of the cab this weekend too (seat, gas tank etc).

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
I got the cab almost gutted. My buddy is going to stop by this week to pull the windshield and rear glass for me, then I can sandblast and epoxy prime it. I also got the doors gutted and going to order full skins and the inner lower pieces this week. My axles and brakes should be in by Wednesday.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
A few more pictures. I got new bushings and ball joints in the upper and lower C4 control arms and got the front end together. I made temporary shocks since I'm a long ways away from needing coilovers and can use the money for other stuff.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
Well, I got the brakes and axle shafts and after getting ready to install them I noticed the bearing and seal surfaces inside the 9" housing were severely worn out. It looks like a bearing exploded and was driven on for a few thousand miles. To make a long story short, the housing that I just had shortened is junk. I never noticed because the bearing race was in the way (must have been replaced). I made a call to Currie and ordered a new narrowed housing.
Now the new axle tubes are about 1/4 smaller than the old ones and I already opened up my PB 4 link brackets so I had to get a little creative. I got some 1/8" rod, heated it up and bent it around a 3" pipe, then cut them to length and fitted them inside the 4 link brackets. It worked out great.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
I got the cab sitting on a frame for the first time in about 15 years
I also welded up the 4 link brackets to the new housing taking my time not to warp it. Body work starts after the holidays. MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

You'll love that welder. I've got one and it does wonders.
I'll have to be good this next year and get some goodies. All I got was coal. Do you have a link to your brothers build? |

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
Thanks for the compliments. My brother and I already own a Miller 211 but since he is welding thick stuff and I'm getting ready to do sheet metal it would be a PITA to keep switching the wire back and forth. Plus there is a 6" step between his side of the garage and mine and the welding cart is heavy. This welder was a gift from my kick ass father.
As far as the build thread for my brothers mud truck, well there isn't one. He isn't computer savvy at all. I'll try to keep you guys updated on his progress. I also need to post a few updated pictures from my fathers 57 build. We just finished rockers/cab corners/door work and he is going to be building a 496 soon. Fun times ahead

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
I've been working on door skins this week but didn't get any pics yet. Here are a few from my Father's step side build. This started out as a beater truck to plow his driveway and he tore it down to "fix a few things". That snowballed into a complete restoration. His friends named the truck "show plow", and yes he does plow his driveway with it.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
Great history behind your truck. My '65 was my grandfather's that he gave me when I turned 16.
Nice work so far on the truck. Looks like you, your brother and father have some skills with the pics of the other projects and a god place to work.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
I sandblasted and primed the inside of the doors and will start replacing the skins and inside lower piece this weekend. I also starting filling in the heater vents in the firewall since I won't be running the original setup.

I got the inside lower piece welded in and the skin test fit. I'm pretty happy with how it is coming out having never done one before.

Re: Project "Full Circle" 66 C10
Good luck with it !!
At the time, I was too scared to try it, but if I had, I would have put sound deadner and all kinds of stuff to make it better !!
