Thanks John...was afraid to post it as it is off topic , but when I was a kid in the 70's{I'm 54} I was into Novas , Chevelles, Camaros and lifted trucks so I missed the van craze that was going on and had 2 friends customizing them at the time....so about 6 years ago I started messing with some vans...I bought and sold 3 before i ended up with this 77 that I bought off the original owner out of Buffalo.....

My Mom had a 79 Dodge van customized with a steamboat air brushed on the side of it, I often think back to many road trips in it. Good times.

I wish he still had that red 2wd!... or both for that matter.
Anyways, just thought I would share.

Re: Times Have Changed

Man I must be stuck in the 80's! I have a set of 15x8 chrome modulars that I ran from when I was 16, till 8 years later I am 24 now until I just recently switched to new wheels. Even have a pair of 15x10's with drag radials to go with them.

My Dad also did the van craze thing. He bought his van new in 1976, was a G10 short was base in maroon. Besides a set of Cragar SS wheels, CB antenna, and some side pipes it was relatively simple on the outside. No flares, murals, bubble windows, etc. The real show was the drivetrain. Had a 400HP 350 and 3.73 gears with a posi out back. It was a 13 second van with full custom interior.

My dad actually kept this van till the mid 90's as a spare vehicle and I remember riding in it. It was like a time machine back to the 70's. By this time the side pipes and CB antenna were gone. At the time, it was actually not too far out of style. The plush family conversion vans with teal suede and stained wood interior of that time were in full swing, but since he kept the outside mostly stock looking it actually fit right in, just looked a bit older.

I really wanted the van for high school. My plans were to freshen the paint job, add air conditioning and revamp the sound system. My dad pulled the motor and trans and sold the shell. He said I would get myself in trouble with a vehicle like that. Must have been something about the red suede covered bed in the rear section.

He bought a 78 Silverado shortly with chrome modular wheels shortly after getting rid of the van, which became mine later on. Though the van was cool I'm happier that I ended up with a truck.

Probably not the "fixing" that you were thinking of, but I've had a hand in this.

I think of stuff like that when I see those vans. Gotta have the big rock mural painted on the side. Picture a guy with a mullet driving it.
