Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

I've never bought a tank for the 20+ of these trucks I've had. I've only had maybe 2 that had any gas smell, both them were coming from when the neck goes into the tank. A little JB Weld fixed both of them.

I do...but it's coming out when I'm old enough to drive it as it IS a safety issue, will probably go with a '69 Camaro tank

Pintos were a safety issue I don't see safety an issue unless u have a leak but that's a safety issue no matter where the tank is

Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

I'm only considering the swap because I'm going to have another OEM tank on hand here shortly from a parts truck otherwise I'd just run it! I have no fuel smell in either of my trucks.

Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

I have my original tank in my 1968 C10 but I have a 20 gallon fiber glass one in the bed for when I drive out of town.
Just last week I replaced the fuel sending unit in it b/c my fuel gauge wasn't working.
I went down to Tuckers (Where I get all my pick up parts). Turns out my C10 was originally a 6 cylinder so the fuel sending unit was different. The only difference was the size of the fuel line. it was a 1/4 instead of a 3/8.

Tuckers is just a mile from my house so it is awesome.

Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

Pulled mine, hot tanked it, and put it back.

This time, with an electric fuel pump.
The brand-new mechanical one was a no-go.

Do you mean you put a pump in the tank?

Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

I don't have time to count how many of these trucks I've owned since 1973,but they all had the original tank. I'd think people would be more concerned about a person who isn't an automotive engineer altering the location with their own idea.

Someone could t-bone you and it could blow up. It's probably a $250 swap for the Camaro tank, and I have no problem spending that much for safety.

That's kinda how big trucks are (well volvos anyway) its a little more advanced then just a hose though. Fuel hose goes from one tank to a distribution block, which is mounted higher than both tanks, then to other tank. The fuel like neutralizes between the two tanks which only requires one sending unit.

Re: Who's s sporting their original tanks

I'm running the original tank right now, but can't wait to get rid of it. I have 2 aux tanks installed, but haven't made the leap to pull the factory tank yet. I'm scared of "ole sloshy" as RustedMetal called it (INSANELY FUNNY btw).
