Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
It is a beautiful truck however as in the other post I have concerns about the VIN number.
Did "the original paperwork for the guy that restored/built the truck" have anything period backing up this number/plate as being original to the truck? Have you verified the frame VIN numbers?

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
I don't think it's been lifted & think it's just stock height w/31" tires. You can see by my other trucks they are about same height with 31 & 32" tires.
According to the paperwork I have it was owned & restored in Virginia. He indicated that he owned the truck for 20yrs & collected the parts in that time for the restoration. He lists the options that the truck has, but never indicates it's a true "Super". It was sold @the Carlisle show in 2004. It has been registered in California since 2005 to the guy I purchased it from. So unless I'm dealing with a stolen truck I'm not too concerned about the Vin situation. I would disclose this info in the event I ever had to sell the truck. My 69 Camaro is suppose to be a SS/RS, but I have no way to verify it other then everything on it is for the rally sport option. |

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
The truck is still @the dealer & I'll pull the vin off the frame when I go to see it. Are the frame vin#'s located the same place as the 2WD or at a dif location? I looked sat but could not see it & was checking to see if the frame had been chopped!

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
Please go back and read the thread on this forum concerning that truck. I think it was titled "EBAY/ Ca. help" or something to that effect. The truck is indeed beautiful and appears to be beautifully restored, but having a VIN and GVW Data plate for a SUBURBAN would be a deal breaker for me. Unless the frame VIN matches, something is fishy. Even if it does match, unless you can prove a factory goof up, you may have a problem with future posible buyers or a dilligent DMV officer. Also, you may want to check title to see if the model is pick-up or carryall. Chip.

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
Ok, I get what you guys are saying about the Vin# not being correct. So, sometime in the last 42yrs someone did a cab swap and/or replaced the Vin with one from a burb for whatever reason. It's my understanding that in some states back east they do not issue title to older vehicles and many are sold with a bill of sale only. I just rec'd a copy of the clear California title with the same Vin# and doesn't mention truck, suburban or anything other than body type "PK". It's currently registered in California.
So aside from the truck probably being a better copy then I could ever build, issues with possible resale value and the off chance the truck was stolen at some point and Vins were swapped I don't see what the big deal is. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
As long as the vin plate and title match, it isn't a big deal. It is currently registered here legally as it sits. As far as looking at the frame, it's a non issue for resale here as well...it doesn't need a DMV inspection, as it is already titled here. A phone call to triple a, and the truck never even leaves the driveway. Out of state might be different, so that could narrow resale in that respect. I doubt Morris plans to sell this truck anytime soon, and if he did, he would have plenty of prospective buyers in this state.

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
I'm wondering if that trucks came out of Jerry Brown's shop. It looks like his level of quality and he brings a couple or three to Carlisle a year. I remember seeing it there, just not 100% sure it was one of Jerry's.
What I had posted was only meant to let you know,in case you didn't already, about the Suburban title. A nice truck is a nice truck. Many of us make this truck out of that truck. I do,and when I do it's done to look factory. But,I let people know what I did if I sell. I'm building a '67 GMC Super Custom SWB. Frame is a '71,cab-'72,engine-'68,trans-'65 GTO,hood, fenders, doors, tailgate,& one bedside-'67 GMC! I haven't decided on VIN/title,but pretty sure it won't be a CE10DZCxxxxx and the model won't be CE10734

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
I've been emailing him back and forth on this & he is going to try and have his DMV guy pull a copy of the original Virginia title. He also stated that when the title was made in 05 California had to do a verification to do a body type. He said the "PK" on the title indicates a truck and "UT" would indicate suburban or blazer. He has been up front with me from the beginning & even mentioned that someone said the #'s were off on the Vin while I was looking at it. He asked me if I knew anything about it. I assumed he was talking about a date code or something.
What really confuses me is why someone would go through the trouble of such a high quality build and then throw an odd ball Vin on it. I mean the truck has everything (correct door panels, glovebox, exhaust shields). It all looks like NOS part were used throughout this build. And some of you guys were complaining about the steering wheel and rusted exhaust hangers ??? "Really" The truck was restored 10yrs ago & has been driven a few thousand miles since according to the paperwork. I do appreciate the heads up from everyone on the forum, but like I said as long as I don't find out the truck is stolen I'm good with it. For all we know it could have been a "Friday" truck and something got mixed up at the factory Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
Hope it works out, it does have alot of nice work done and I like the steering wheel. Just corrected something GM over looked they should have offered them in the truck, it looks like it belongs there

Re: Finally got my dream truck!!!
The shoulder belts are repro Corvette (at least the retaining boots are), not a criticism at all. CheyenneSuperMan sells this type, and I see them on a lot of high dollar restorations. The seat covers are double stitched, Truck World brand, the best out there. Someone put a LOT of money into this truck. The only thing I didn't see was tow hooks. That gives you something to hunt for at least, lol.
