Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

well its been a couple weeks since I got to post any new updates on the truck, I've made some good progress but it just seems nothing goes right when you want it to. But I guess that's the way things go when you do it on your own, here are the updates and some pics. I got the fenders on and all the glass in, new door handles, locks, mirrors and started the long slow process of wiring it up and getting the motor fired up.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

Here is something cool I did and I never saw it done before, not saying it was never done but I think its pretty cool. So I was looking at new grills and I couldn't see paying 1000.00 for a grill that said Chevrolet on it, so I bought one for a third of the price and made it to say Chevrolet. It was pretty easy to do and ill show you how I did it for those who want to do it also. And here are the steps I did and the things you will need. First you will need a grill, 67-68 chevy hood emblem kit, paper ( I used butcher paper ) hunk of cardboard, pencil, drill bits (not sure what two I used but im sure you can figure it out).
1st thing I did was take old grill that said Chevrolet and lay it on saw horses and tape paper over Chevrolet, I used one long piece but you can tape regular white paper together and it should work.
2nd step was I took a short carpenters and shaved it down so the pencil lead was showing along the whole side, then I went over the paper to show the Chevrolet. this is just for the spacing and the letters on the grill and the emblems are almost the same.
3rd I took the paper off the grill and stuck it over a old cardboard box this is so you can push emblems threw the paper and it will give you the lay out of the studs on the back of the emblems. Just hold emblem of the paper get it lined up and push it threw, VERY IMPORTANT..........CHECK THE TWO E's IN THE EMBLEM KIT.......the two in my kit had different studs on the back so as you pop them in the cardboard leave them in till you done then you cant screw it up. I didn't screw mine up but got confused when the first e wouldn't fit then saw they were different.
4th take emblems out of cardboard and match up the studs on the back of the emblems with some drill bits. there are two studs on the back of each letter one has a nut the other is just a stud, the one with the nut is bigger. and then I cut the paper down to around a 3" piece and put it on new grill got it centered and lined up the taped it down, once I had it centered I used the smaller drill bit and drilled all holes, then I went back and drilled the holes for the studs with nuts......now some holes I had to round out a little but it was pretty easy to do when you get over drilling in to a brand new grill.
now here are some pictures

I've never seen that done on a grille. What a great idea!

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

I was worried about the R and how it would fit on the bend in the middle but it fit almost like it was supposed to be there.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

The 67~68 hood has a crease right where the R in Chevrolet sits. That's why it fit so well. Amazing job, man. I love it!

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

yes its a 67-68 hood emblem kit........the R is bent to fit the center line of the hood but it fits the bend in the grill perfect.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

Had like the worst weekend ever.............my father came over so we could start the motor up and get it set and in time and the damn brand new starter wouldn't shut off. Well NAPA was closed but I have a couple old ones laying around, so I got the old starter on and it worked then. So we get the motor running and it sounds great and then we start smelling gas....................After walking around the truck I see the tank has a small pin hole in it, the tank was out of a blazer that flushed and checked for leaks over a year ago but I guess sitting empty for over a year with a little moisture in my garage did it in. Well I ordered a new tank the truck is running but my problems weren't over yet........I backed the truck out sunday morning prepped the hood, cowl, glove box door and ashtray.............Got all my stuff out for paint.........mixed up some paint went to take the lid off my gun and that damn thing would not come off, so I ran into my dads garage and grabbed his gun. Well I should of checked it first because it had the primmer tip in it and it was only shooting paint out of one side. Now I didn't notice this because I was messing with the setting think it was that but after I got the first coat on everything I figured it out. Everything came out pretty good the hood had some orange peel but that **** will buff out or so Joe Dirt says. I'll post some pictures soon just need to catch up on some sleep right now.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

well since all it has done all week is rain I did a little work in the cab, got the new carpet in and the new pedal pads and the new steering wheel. And I hooked up the heater controls and ran some wires for the stereo system, and I have been working on the custom center console/sub box and amp rack and some custom gauges. I will be getting some pictures this weekend and hopefully the sun will shine and I can get the hood on and then get the bed painted. But here is one cause I don't want anyone putting up how this thread is worthless with out pictures....hahaha

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

they are headman silver ceramic shorty headers......there is another name I think they use besides silver ceramic. there was another board member who had them and I asked how they were holding up and he said they have been on for five years so I was sold. and they worked well with my color scheme. I wanted the truck on the road a year ago but I should of known better, my father says I turn everything in to a project........I say it keeps me in the yard and that's how I stay out of trouble.
