Ed -

Here is the pic of the m/c hole and spacer plus one with the spacer installed. It looks just like yours doesn't it?

I noticed you are using a CPP master. Is it 1.21" (1-1/8") bore? Maybe only the 7/8" and 1" bore m/c use the spacer thingy... I could be wrong.

Chad has ordered several different length pushrods from Wilwood, so we are going to experiment with them when they get here.

What does the front of the booster look like?
I always thought the spacer what needed for the trucks that run a booster.
(like in the second picture)
Flush with the back of the Wilwood M/C.

I'm with Keith! Mine looks just like the 2nd picture and I've been running it for quite some time. I just bought the aluminum one from Shawn072 because I'm great at pissin money away

. I'd tell you to try the spacer... Mine has been on 2 other trucks before the '70 model...all with a p/b booster and the McGaughy 13" brake kit front & rear. I think that's the "ticket".

My only other thought is that the pieces that came with the Wilwood go in the stock booster pushrod after you take out the adjustable "head" from the o.e. piece... just a thought?

I just double checked mine...okay like quadruple checked mine, and I am using the same booster pushrod (your pic "A") and I still had to use the spacer piece. My spacer piece is slightly longer than yours at 1 1/2" in length and I still had to adjust out the stock pushrod only slightly to get the appropriate drag on the m/c (or lack there of...something to do with pedal freeplay, I believe). I'm totally convinced that you should use the stock pushrod and the spacer doohickey.

Put a little anti-seize on the spacer, put it in the M/C, install the o.e. pushrod into the booster, mount the M/C & give the pedal a push... bet you get fluid outta that M/C then... Be sure to put the bleeder lines back into the reservoir so you don't make a mess.

So just to make sure I understand correctly... With the mater cylinder mounted in place and the lines disconnected fluid doesn't even drip out?

It shouldn't, right? Without compressing the piston, the reservoir is not "open" to leak out. Mine didn't leak but a drop or 2 when I pulled the bench bleed lines and installed the factory steel lines. Mine bled fine...after much pedal pushing.

Pop, .. I think we need the doohickey. We just have to find the right pushrod. Don't hesitate to cut one if you need to.

Lol. I'm thinking that you're over thinking it. Use the stock pushrod (screw it all the way in to start) and put in the doohickey and bleed the brakes. Then adjust the pushrod once you have appropriately bled brakes.

That's A LOT of pushrod, screwing & doohickey references.

Keith -

Here is a pic of the front of the CPP booster. The pushrods that came with the Wilwood M/C have little tips on the end that insert into the booster. Does that round metal thingy (Ed's word) on the end of the original pushrod come off? It doesn't look like it does.

On stock M/C's, there seems to be a lot more fluid seeping when you remove the bleeder screws to connect your metal lines. We get maybe a drop or two.

But, when bench bleeding the fluid really flows great through the clear bleeding tubes using a large phillips head screwdriver.

Maybe, since we now have 4 huge Corvette style units and replaced most of the brake lines, it will take a LOT of fluid to get them full.

After inserting the spacer in your M/C, did you have to apply a good bit of force to get it to slip over the booster bolts and depress the pushrod?

I tried using the insert in the M/C, but I couldn't get it to slide over the bolts?

Oh, by the way... the stock pushrod will not insert into the CPP booster with that big circular metal thing on the end. The rubber shroud inside the hole is different from the original one. You can see the original rubber "washer" that slides into the factory booster still hanging on the pushrod "A" in my photos.

I was using the longer Wilwood pushrod "B" with the spacer when the M/C didn't want to slide on the CPP booster as stated above.

Ok, .. let's just stop. I have three Wilwood branded (if that matters) push rods on the way. Summit had three available so we can just use the one we need and send the other ones back. All three of them make reference to using a Wilwood tandem MC with a booster.

Lets just wait and see what those do. Pop, I'll come up after work tomorrow and we'll look at it again.

Fluid should leak out of the MC when lines are unhooked. Think about it, gravity bleeding plus breaks can leak down sometimes while a truck sits. I would take the plugs out on both sides of the MC and see if fluid comes out.
