Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

I do not think I would rent a classic of mine to make an action movie. Car or truck.

Nope. Me neither.

The big deal in Michigan now (...now that the auto industry has tanked) is to make movies here. A lot of the local car clubs furnish vintage/period correct cars for the movie makers but I don't think I could be persuaded to do it.

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

I would say that cab looks pretty good. Looks like the driver side hood needs a little work. But from what I can see, the rust is no worse than what is on a lot of the 80's trucks. Looks like a short bed?

YEP! That is an 86 elco/chevelle headlamp mounting panel and all relevant parts slapped into the stock hole of his "baby". Looks like his truck swallowed a chevelle...
So I am thinking that this must be a fairly common mod on these trucks? adding the chevelle / elco front headlamp panel to the front of these? Today while driving home from a somewhat short road trip i seen another one. WTH?

This truck is lowered with all belltech goodies. I dont know what spindles are on it yet but i am guessing 3 inch spindles. the coils seem to be stock and appear to have been cut. the rear has a belltech shackles and front leaf spring hangers.

I have claimed these parts as well as the wheels and sport mirrors. I intend to put the lowering kit parts on my truck, maybe the mirrors, and the wheels are not my cup of tea.

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

I got my 63 off the bed of the wrecker that was headed to the scrapper. It was a one owner truck. Didn't need any rust repair at all. Not even rockers. I gave him scrap price for it (400)

I got this one from the same guy too. Its an 87 short wide. TBI 350. All there. I also gave him 400 for this one.

Fortunately he now knows me and brings all Chevy trucks by my shop before going to the crusher to give me a chance to buy them for scrap price if I want them.

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

Dang, sounds like you have something going there. Hard to believe these were headed for the crusher.

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

It's been a wonderful deal for me. Every time I get a bit broke I try and buy something from him and part it out. We all know they're worth more as parts than as whole scrap.

I monkeyed with the 63 for a few months with stuff I had laying around and built a neat little truck out if it.

It's since been sold and was last seen with an LS drivetrain and air bags.

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

Why are truck like that being crushed for god's sake. Ok, if you don't like (these) trucks. But still, there are a lot of parts on that you can make money on.

Wheels/tires, fenders, doors, glass, cargo light, mirrors, taillights, emplems, axles, bumpers, etceteraaaa...

i agree, but try and remove/store/sell the stuff is a job in it self
hopeing somebody needs it and wants and will pay
and then some see you have a few trucks/parts ,and then figure it should be cheap/lowball
or free they show up later after dark or when your out

Where do you see an el camino? The crushed truck on the pic is a 80-87 c10 i guess. But still. Worth more in parts then scrap and then you can keep the chassis and body for scrap (if in bad shape).

Re: Bound for the CRUSHER

Even more painfull to see these photos from up here in the salt belt where many of the trucks on the road are in worse condition. I'd gladly swap out my rusting to oblivion square for what looks like mostly intact bodies that are only in the yards becuase the owner doesn't want them anymore.
