Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Not for nuthin'- a 80's era box is reputed to have a faster ratio and tighter feel. conversely, there's a guy in Springfield, MO that'll do whatever you want for around two bills. Just a thought.

Diff is getting 4.10's, Detroit TrueTrac and new bearings. Might need axles, going to play it by ear there though. It'll never see sticky tires so not too worried about their strength. Thanks guys! Quote:
The ratio on the stock box is pretty pathetic...like they took the manual box and didn't change the ratio when they added power to them. At highway speeds it's pretty sketchy. |

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
TrueTrac showed up Friday.
I dropped the axle, gears, bearings and diff off today to have everything put together. Also working out some bugs while the truck is up in the air: I'm pulling the column back out to install the cruise stalk I got from LS171Nova so now it'll have cruise. I ordered a steering box for an 83 but to be honest I'm thinking about just putting a rack on it. If it gets squirelly I don't want to have trouble staying on top of it. We'll see. I've dumped about 5k into the g-d thing in the past month to get all the BS sorted so I'm starting to get some looks from the wife.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Wife dug around in the mailbox this afternoon...apparently when we returned last night from a local beer festival we may have overlooked getting the mail...Oops!
She found presents!! This should be the easiest cruise install ever. That's definitely one of the positives to a DBW setup, super easy to get cruise. Last edited by Jon01; 07-22-2013 at 07:45 AM. |

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Better update this.
Drove the truck all summer without issue, had lots of fun but I've decided that it needs more power. So, sold the heads, custom cam and FAST intake. I'm going to put LS3 heads, a ported LS3 intake and another custom Tick cam in it. Then add 12-14psi. Goal is 650 to the tire. |

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Yeah....we're gonna need some more pics of that turbo piping. I'm doing a 5.3 turbo this year as well, and your install looks like the cleanest one I've seen yet. Excellent work on that hotside.
I hear you on needing more power, my LS swapped Camaro runs great (11.26@122.8) but it'll probably be my last NA build. Who knew 15 years ago the future of hot rodding would be so full of ridiculous horsepower? |

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Thanks guys. Fab work is being done by Nate @ www.one-guys-garage.com.
He's not cheap, I'll have more in the turbo than I did in the LS swap but it'll be rude once completed but there won't be any corners cut. Initial plan is to run a pump gas safe boost level thus year, likely around 650whp. Then this winter put meth/alcohol on it and shoot for 1k+ on a stock short block.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
Figured I should update this.
Truck is home and running/driving. Tune shop was a letdown. I'm undecided if I'm going to take it back for them to finish or just finish it myself. With a pig rich tune it made 450 on 8# and 11*. The 2" exhaust is going to go, it will hardly build boost with the cutout closed. With it open, hang on. I matted it going ~50 and it just smoldered the tires. On 8#. I've been chasing what feels like a miss but I'm starting to wonder if it's not just the different exhaust sound - since it's now single into duals. Latest round of goodies: PB front control arms, trailing arms, sway bar, trailing arms and a No Limit rack setup. Then it'll be going down to my chassis guy to have that and the drop parts put on it. I'm also going to have him redo the exhaust. Single 4" in muffler with 2-3" tails that dump right behind the rear tires. Once that's done I'm done for a while.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap
What radiator are you using? I'm trying to find someone who used the ls radiator? I want to use the ls one in my truck Bc my oem radiator is the one from the factory and is on it's last leg! My truck is a 87 4x4 though.

I may end up upgrading though, all the piping underhood really adds to the heat. It was great n/a but I'm a little concerned about it's ability to bleed the heat when it gets hot this summer. There's no reason to run the LS radiator, just get another stocker and run it. The steam port you can drill/tap the top of the water pump housing and run that there. Thanks guys. Picked up a DM setup for the front an PB tubular stuff for the rear. When it gets the rear stuff I'll be having new exhaust run on it and a retune.

Although the LS radiator I have is free... I like free parts. I don't think adding a steam line would be too difficult but I don't see a reason why not to use the LS radiator either. |
