Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

Cool as all get out and a good 312 has the best sounding exhaust through a pair of glass packs of any engine made. I'm another one who would have one if I wasn't so deep into the Chevys.

I'm thinking that that brown truck that Bob in BC posted belonged to one of the main stays of Henry's Haulers back in the early 80's and got driven all over the PNW.

................... and for some more off topic!
Bobinbc, is Mcclease Lake still up the road from Williams Lake, did they ever do any construction on the mine up there??
I worked up there in 1966 and used to come into town (Williams Lake) on the weekends to the Canadian Legion for the dance.
I must have seen that 56 Ford up there because I liked them also since the 60's.

When we were doing mining exploration in the mid 60's, they said that the lake would possibly me filled in

Yes the lake is still there.... and the mine is open again. It's called Gibraltar Mine and it's been in operation for a long time. Here's a little info http://www.infomine.com/minesite/min...site=gibraltar

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

Ok, so I finally got finished putting a new roof on the shop and had a chance to roll the 56 out of the shed for some pics. Took with my phone, sorry.
In my old truck I had a blanket on the seat to make it look better, on this one I'm trying to keep the seat clean because it is like new. The 2 barrel intake and truck exhaust have been added to the 312. Boards in the back will get redone this winter along with a few other details. My wife pointed out that the chrome gloebox door makes an excellent mirror, she won't wear a skirt in the truck again! Wheels and stance are definitely 80's but I can live with it for now. Yes that is a 3 on the tree.

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

THAT is a VERRRY nice truck.

Yes, I it has aspects that are a little out of date. I could live with the rims because they're in very nice condition, but the stance is as bad as my truck, lol.

It's crying out for lowering til the wheel wells are at the top of the tire at least. OR, you could put a 75 series tire on it. I got some very cheap off Craigslist because no one WANTS 75's but on that truck with that stance it might improve the look.

PS: I'd KEEP that truck!

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

A few more...truck is real dirty under the hood, haven't got in there to clean yet.
I just couldn't resist a shot of the truck and my bike together, sorry not showing off. What are the odds the color would be so close though?

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

before I bought my 56 Chevy 3100 I almost purchased a 51 Ford F1. That's a great looking truck. I give my first love to the Stovebolts but appreciate any old iron especially in the 50's

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

I have always liked the '53-'56 F100s, especially the '56 Custom Cab.

If I have any issue with those trucks, it's the lack of interior space. The '55-'59 Chevy trucks are way more spacious inside.

Especially the 56 with the wrap around windshield. I always thought it was funny that the 53-55 cabs actually look "more modern" than the 56 with their flatter more modern looking windshields.

I bought three or so of these in the 90's and built them all sorts of ways, I turned one into a plow truck

The glovebox comment was funny... I'd keep it and tell 'er to wear one anyway It's not like 3 people would fit very well in those cabs anyway!

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

Hey, just an aside...

Can one of you guys school me on WHY it was necessary to have that crossover pipe on the old Ford Y blocks?

I've never seen that on any other V8 engine (maybe they do exist and I just haven't seen them).

I imagine someone will quote some verbiage about "...balancing exhaust impulses, improved scavenging, yada, yada," but why not do that to Chevie's if its so necessary?

Re: Please don't hate, off topic...

Dan, the truck has single exhaust and rather than join the pipes under the engine they did it on top. The Y-block is quite wide so the only other manifolds that would work are ram horns and for some reason they didn't use them on F100's. I'll be the first to admit I know next to nothing about these trucks.

Very nice truck.

I used to drive one around the parking lot when a gentleman brought his in for regular service at a place I used to work. Being 6'4", I had a really hard time clutching that thing and steering it with those wide tires at slow speed and no power steering!

It was a very cool truck though.

Very very nice... I like. I wouldn't change a thing. I like the wheels and stance. Reminds me of the styles that were out when I fell in love with old cars and trucks. Congrats...

Solidaxle that is a sweet looking truck! I've seen the work you do on your own stuff and I'm sure the owner was very happy with any work you did on that.

I will try to get some more pics this weekend, it's pretty stock and I plan to keep it that way, at least for now. First custom trucks I remember when I was a teen were a 48 Ford with big boots on the back and flatbed with stake sides and a rootbeer brown metallic with flames 56 Ford. I thought those trucks were so cool.

Edit: Here is an old pic I found of that rootbeer 56 that first got me interested in custom classic trucks! This was in a town called Williams Lake, BC and goes back about 35 years but you can see how it influenced me (check out my 57 in my avatar!)
Love the 56 Ford trucks. The rootbeer truck looks very familiar. He must have had it down to the states a time or two, because Im sure Ive seen it in person.
