Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
My daily driver is a 67 ford didn't think I would like it as much as the old Chevys but to be honest I like it more except for my gas mileage lol 4x4 4spd and a big block I get between 6-8mpg. You will have a ton of fun in that truck. Mine to has a little story behind it but it is more why I like it so much not that it was family owned

Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
UGLY? NOT! I'm pretty much a Chevy man, myself, but that's definitely a nice looking truck. You don't need to make any apologies for it!
My son picked up a 71 Ranger XLT F-100 long bed a few years ago, he drove it every day for a couple of years, now it's the family dump/ lumberyard runner. It's very cool, 390 c.i. with an automatic, factory A/C, two tone, dual fuel tanks. A real "Cowboy Cadillac", and all original. He lowered it a couple of inches, and put some nice sticky tires on steelies with old style (like '48) Ford hubcaps and beauty rings, .... That truck is Fun with a capital "F" to drive! When I was in business (building) I had a 75 F-600 dump truck with a 390 motor....drove it for 17 years, and it made me $$$ day in and day out. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy that truck, especially with the family history.....I know I would! |

Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
Thanks again for the comments everyone. I've been driving the truck a little here and there but the tires are so old I really don't trust driving on them haha. I hated the rear being lower than the front so I decided to lower the truck just a bit. I need to decide on some new wheels and tires. Wheel selection isn't great for 5*5.5 bolt pattern and I don't want anything too flashy. Any opinions on which of these would look best? I'm leaning toward the first wheel.

I think I would clean up what you have before buying either of those. A set of 17 or 18 grey centered 5 spoke wheel (something like Ridlers, show wheels, etc) would look great, too.

Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
I actually don't mind the look of the wheels that are on the truck now but the backspacing has them tucked about 4" from the fender and I hate that look. I wouldn't mind a nice 5 spoke but I haven't seen any in a 5x5.5 pattern other than cragars and I'm not a fan of cragars on these trucks.

Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
Not that it means much, but my Grandpa on my mom's side owned Ford trucks, and my Dad's dad worked for and owned several Studebakers in the day. Any of which I would have loved to have owned. My Dad currently owns 3 1972 GMC pick-ups one of which he is the original owner with 40k miles and smells like brand new inside. But he also owns several Fords and a Studebaker from the 30's. He has a 5 window coupe that he has owned since 1957. But his original GMC has memories of travels around the country for me.
Anyway, I'll stop day dreaming and just say congratulations. Also, we once owned a Ford van that my Dad put Chevy hubcaps on the stock wheels (to help with performance). |

Re: 17 years of waiting and finally got my truck!!
got some new wheels on the truck, cheap craiglslist cragar's. Also got some new heads, intake and a 4 bbl carb and installed some LMC exhaust.
It still has a weird knocking sound during slow turns. Any ideas what that may be?
