I used to be a 350 guy, which is a fantastic motor, but more recently I started running 283's. Not torque monsters but different and fun. They are also good on gas and sound great when screaming wide open thru a set of Porter Steel Packs. I hopped one of them up with some goodies to get some more grunt, switched the slushbox for a manual, then saddled it with a Vintage Air, and it'll take a beating all day.

Good thread to bring back up!

I have a '55 GMC 150 (I am 3rd owner) with a stock 248 L6 4 spd.
I have a stock '64 C10 (I am 2nd owner) with a 292 L6 4 spd
I am building another '64 C10 with a 292 L6 and a T5 5 speed.
Take a guess :-)

All of my trucks have v8 power, although my first truck came to me with a 292.

The lack of LSx option offends me....we don't like to be grouped with the general v8 hooligans.

I love the 350 I have, but there is many times I wish I would have stayed with an inline 6.

My stock 65 short bed has 2bbl 283, 3 on tree. Some say 175hp, some 195, who knows for positive?

Old 4blt stroked to 383 Vortecs, Weiand, Scat, Hedman 1 5/8, Howards Roller, .495/500, Scorpion. Leaf flip, cut coils. Make do tires and wheels for now. Slip ahead a year? Sold GMC, bought Harley, got all obsessed doing the biker thing, now starting again w 65 SWB, 283,2bbl, 3 on tree.
