Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
Its a shame they make it so hard for us all. It comes down to safety just like the jobim on one guy can't handle a grinder with a zip cut and rips a hand open. Now we are only allowed to use the thick ass horrible cutting 1/8 combo discs. As for our regulations we are very lucky. Thanks captain

So I found a really cheap mustang two crossmember and arms. Does anyone know if a Chevy spindle will go on it or what mods need to be done

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
I wouldn't use the stock wheelbase.
Mock up the fenders and bedsides. The front wheels usually need to move forward in the wheel opening and the rear wheels usually need to move rearward. This will center the wheels for a better look. Plus gain you some needed firewall clearance.

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
It's lookin good, Low! But, like Lo(above poster) said, mock up the wheels centered in the wheel wells.
Progress? More importantly, Pics?

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
Sorry guys not much progress I work in a camp so every two weeks I get a week off. Just bought another parts truck for a couple things front crossmember , deluxe steering wheel and box sides. And on the way home from Edmonton with the 65 I found a 2003 express 3500 van with a fresh rebuilt 4l80 and a 160000 km on the motor. Been tossing around ideas for the 4 link

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
Idea for the 4 link not to sure if I'm gonn go triangulated or parrellel. Triangulated will get in my way of air tanks under the bed

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
Looks like your doing some of the same figuring as I've been doing.
Nice to see some original thinking. I moved my front wheel into position (centered into the wheel opening) and did a "Flowing Z". Along with a 5" cab stretch I custom shortened the bed so I set all the sheet metal up/set the rear in place/looked and measured to make it all even. I will definitely keep tabs on your build. Like the progress. Good job so far. |

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
Well I have a month off at Christmas so I'm hoping to have the front frame section built and the 4 link. I have the fishplates on the rear all welded up. Before I make the 4 link I have to shorten my box which ill be starting on Friday when I get out of camp. My last turnaround I got my 6.0l and 4l80 pulled out o the express van. What a job for one guy. Ill never buy a van for a motor swap lol.

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
A little excessive on the fishplates. It allows me to incorporate my lower link into the frame without a mount. It also keeps it under the frame rail which will simplifie my bag mount.

Re: 63 full frame build help!!!!
I ended up taking 6.5 out back and 9.5 from the front had to dismantle the back stake pocket and taillight cap. It just didn't match very well to the box side

I really like the 9-6 cut but last minute I took 9.6-6.5 just so it wasn't the same lol. Still have a ton of work on this side to clear the wheels
