if youbspend the money on plastidip now, you won't have to.spend time sanding later.

Plasti dip easiest way to describe it is peelable paint. Say for example I have in perfect condition rallies on my truck, but I want them red. Go out to your local Lowe's or Home Depot, wherever they sell the product you spray it on to your liking and then just let it dry.

Now if you get tired of the red you just take a small blade cut a little piece of that paint from the plasti dip and then you just pull it off. Might take a little while to take it off but it works. Supposed to be wash friendly and all that, I actually was told some guys went and bough some for there Jeeps that they went mudding and didn't want to clean there rims afterwards so they bought the plasti dip put it on there rims then when they were done just took it off and done.

ivorton74, Prep is the entire key.I know it's hard to do because we are always impatient for the end result but sand it with 400 wet/dry and take your time and if you spray a heavy enough coat you will have the desired shine that you want with far less paint than if you spray numerous coats to achieve the same results.Personally i think your work has has made great improvements over where you started.

Good luck and show us the final picture when it's done.

Kent.

Re: Tried the el cheapo rustoleum paint job

well I did the rest of the truck today and added about 3 more coats to the box....still not a brilliant job but still better that how it looked before...again it'll do until I can do better...i'll leave it for a few days to let it dry and maybe try to wet sand it....pics

Give the wet sanding a go, can't hurt. If you don't like the outcome no harm no foul just paint back over it.

You can actually go to a automotive paint shop, they can color match your color and put it in a spray can for you. Around here, it's about 9.00 a can. For good coverage and match. bo ahead and get 2 cans.

Looks good. Wet sand, rubbing compound, polish. I bet you'll be happier with it than paying good money to scuff and spray shop. Plus you got bragging rights, you did it! Post picks of the finished product.

Re: Tried the el cheapo rustoleum paint job

It actually looks good...spent maybe about $100 in supplies and took me a few hours to do...compared to other trucks i've seen around it looks great. Got some over spray in some places but all in all its growin on everytime i go and look at it. Its been really humid aound here for the past few day so the paint dried really fast. I already took all the masking off. I'll take pics of it later n post em

Guys around here are buying it in gallon size and using a Wagner home sprayer looks fairly good and is tough....it's mainly used on offroad trucks for brush doesn't seem to scratch as bad

Close to my plan. I'm gonna thin it then add a little hardener to it. Not to thin and not too much hardner. Went to get it today but all they had in stock was safety red, ordering a gallon of the regal red. $28 bucks a gallon.
