Yes, I use mine like a truck, but also keep it nice. Either way, it's always a real pleasure.

Working hard...

Looking good...

Yup, that's why it's bedlinered. It's hauled mulch and landscaping brick and such since it was finished. It was built specifically to haul Boppa's Bass boat to the lake 20 min. away. Here ya go-

Thank you Austin. I was lucky though, it was in good shape when I bought it.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Use mine when I have extra time to spend answering questions - What year is that?
Do you want to sell it? Did it really come with a 396? Or the comments - My dad had one or my grandfather had one just like that! I wish I had a truck like that.
My other truck - Dodge RAM 1500 I use when I want to get something in a hurry.
In fact this past weekend I had 40 bags of top soil from Home Depot. Spent 15 minutes talking to the fork lift driver about the 1969 CST - 396 3OTT.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

The only thing my 72 short bed hauls is beer, babes, and BBQ. It's retired. My 01 YukonXL hauls everything under the sun and is better than a long bed truck.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

I just got mine ready for a 1,600 mile trip to Arizona with my bike in the back. I'll do that right after I move a few hundred hay bales for my buddy.

I do get a lot of strange looks from people when they see what is pulling my enclosed car hauler.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

WELL, I intended to use it as a truck until the rockers got replaced and painted. It looked so good, I ended up painting the whole truck. Now I don't want to scratch it.....Maybe in a couple of years it will be ready to work again.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Thanks all you guys for posting stories and photos of your baby ! Now how many of you have a pickup that worked it whole life as a work truck ? My 71 GMC 1500 was ordered new to deliver furniture. It still has the store name on it, I promised the first owner I would keep the logo on it. It gets a lot of conversation when I park it in town. This Christmas I am going to light it up in front of the furniture store once again.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

That's cool about your truck being a former furniture store truck, and the lettering, and using it for a Christmas display...even cooler
I bought this after it's first decade of work and worked it two more decades. I sold the bed and wheels/tires off of it to put a flatbed dump and tall skinnies to use on the mountain at my folks' place for firewood, snow plowing, and general hauling. All it's ever known is work

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

I love these pics! Technically mine is used as a truck because the front end is sitting in the bed. I think its great you all still use them as intended. Its just a personal "what the hell?" Moment when I see people dump 50k+ on these new diesel Chevys and haul nothing but their sunglasses case. Very common in California.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Personally if I didn't want to use it as a truck I wouldn't own it. My truck isn't restored and never will be because I don't want to be one of those guys afraid to use it or take two steps away from it for fear of a scratch. I haul whatever needs hauling and tow my camper and gear without worry and love every minute behind the wheel.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Mine had been pulling a camping trailer or a boat for decades by my father-in-law (before I owned it). I use it to haul my Skylark around as needed (not often) and to get construction materials, even though it has a camper shell on it. I want to pull the expired shell off and make it a real truck instead of a camper, but the wife isn't in board with that, quite yet, since she's only seen it as a camper since 1973(!).

If I couldn't use it as a light utility vehicle and a driver I really wouldn't have a use for it.
