Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
I found my Vette wheel on eBay for $150 but I think it's a repro. Most I saw were in the $300 ballpark. This one had two cracks that I filled and painted.
The wheel hub ran almost as much as the wheel plus the repro Vette button ain't cheap. I held off on doing this for a long time because of the cost but I finally bit the bullet and did it cuz I liked the way it looked so much. With the smaller OD it feels way better to drive than the stock wheel .

No rosewood with the old vettes, just simulated walnut, and then the spendy ones, real teak.

I had this exact steering wheel, I had bought it off LMC years ago. I learned the hard way that they don't like manual steering, the wood broke off while I was pulling my trailer and for a time it had a very nice electrical tape finish.

Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
I like all the GM styled wheels. This is the third wheel I've had on this truck, I think it's there to stay.

Here's mine, 1988 up steering wheel, great offset, good feel, plenty of different and comfortable locations for your hands on long drives.

Bought this during the Petit Jean swap meet, think it came out of a chevy car.

Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
Keep 'em coming guys ! .
These are great . I bought a flimsy re pop stock steering wheel that's not even the correct green , I keep thinking of adding an Impala wheel with horn 1/2 rig , maybe a '59 ....... That '46 steering wheel looks fantastic , I wish I had your skillset .

Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
Need more pics!! I am really trying to decide what wheel I want to use. That last one from the 64 Elco looks freaking AWESOME!
Can anyone tell me, is pretty much any GM wheel interchangeable from that era? I have a 69 Chevelle wheel in mind, or possible a Pontiac 3 spoke from the Tran Ams between I don't know....1975-1980ish? Like the Smokey and Bandit car,.......that wheel.....Any help greatly appreciated here! Thanks from Snowy BC! |

Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
WOW...that is amazing! I am sure that will look ridiculously good on your project. What kind of time would something like that take? Would you share with us your procedure? Very nice. I would love to see what it looks like in the truck!

Re: Post your Off year steering wheel pics?
Thanks. I think I had about 2 hours in the actual cutting, and reshaping the wheel. Most of the upcoming labor will be finishing it out. I had to repair the areas I actually cut it,and also the areas I did not. I had to re-arch the remaining curved parts to make them a circle again once it was the final size.Re-arching them caused a lot of small cracks in the original finish that all need repaired, which is very time consuming.
