One that needs some rust repair, dent repair, upholstery repair, drive train repair etc. What will be the quality of the repair? Are you willing to strip it down to bare metal and completely disassemble vehicle? Are you using NOS parts? Is bondo in the picture? Are all the parts needed even available? Repopped parts are many times inferior in fit and quality. A NOS tailgate recently sold for $900, must be a reason, they repop them. How long will a restored truck last before it needs to be restored again due to poor quality materials. I have seen repopped rubber floor mats crack after 3 years, while original floor mats have no cracks at all. How about quality of todays paints? I am sure it does not have the same durability as 1970 paint. A restored truck is nice, but its not in the same league as an excellent original condition collector vehicle. The fact is, 10 or 20 years from now, a nicely restored truck will just be another of thousands of "older restorations", this 1970 truck will be even more valuable if preserved in present state.
I couldn't agree with you more! Well said

Anyone have more detailed pics of the truck? I'd enjoy seeing the nearly bone stockness of an original truck. Not too many of those still around to learn from.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

Hard to believe the prices that were paid at the Lambrecht auction in Nebraska.
Most of those trucks were bare bones and stored outside. Just to put it in perspective, this truck appears to be a far better example than anything that was auctioned off in Pierce NE.

It's indeed hard to understand the prices paid at that auction.

. . . .

A few more:

That black paint on the driver's side exhaust cover helps to show that this truck is REAL
. . . it wouldn't have been on there much longer !!!

The VERY rare right side only valve cover decal can also be seen.
( I've seen this decal and only one more of the originals )

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

I was not talking about the spot weld distortions. The pic on the auction site appeared to have a dent on one of the stamped ridges on the inside of the tailgate. It definitely isn't there in the other pictures though. Must have been the reflection playing tricks on my eyes.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

Truly incredible! So cool to see what one of these trucks looked like in 1970 condition in its un molested state. Can't believe some little furry mammals didn't reek total havoc on the upholstery and build mouse houses inside the air cleaner or scatter acorn shells all over the intake. We get critters sneaking in daily drivers to pick up crumbs and lick the sugar out of empty coffee cups. Ive even had mice build nests in drawers in the back of my work van that I drive almost every day. I saw the pre auction reports and videos of that Nebraska auction.,is there any links or reports out there about the results?

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

A friend of mine in wamego was one of the owners of this truck. Yes he did get it running, they pulled the distributor and primed the motor. they pulled the gas tank and cleaned it. They drove out of the shop and back in . He paid 20K for the truck to the person who bought it from the family after the original owner passed. He sold for right at 25K which I personally think was a steal.

The truck is the real deal. The family did not realize that the truck was there is my understanding. They were as surprised as anyone when they found it. It was in a shed at the back of the property and they did have to cut trees down to get the door open.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

Another story that is told around here, (Tommy you could probably verifiy it) is that the man that bought this actually bought two that were just alike, parked this one and drove the other. I heard a couple of years ago that the other truck was owned by someone in Wamego and they wanted a pile of cash for it because of the history of the trucks but it was a wore out rusted out mess. Never did hear what happened to it or if it was a fact but it would explain why this one was put away so "young" I guess.

I had heard that story.... I will ask Kelvin about it . He is the Person that bought it that I know. Supposedly the guy that bought it from the Family was going to lower the truck and put wheels on it and so on....but came to his senses and sold it to Kelvin who sold it to whomever owns it now I believe.
I sure wish I would have been financially able to have bought it when it was for sale.

Ive seen the truck and I have been in the car Business for over 40 years and I promise you .......THIS TRUCK IS THE REAL DEAL ..... NO IFS, ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT.

Alot of people questioning this truck have never been around a vehicle that has sat and not been used ......Its harder on them than using them.
I have a 1957 Chevy 2dr hdtp that has 14,000 actual miles, it has been driven 5 miles since 1972, It was my 1st car and my Dad bought it from the the original owner and gave it to me in 1973. Its stored inside .... It needs a complete restoration ..... It was an AHRA Drag Car from 1957 to 1972 is the reason for the miles, I also always had something else to drive. MY POINT IS .... NOT Using them is almost worse than driving them.

Boy, anybody who's looking to restore to originality this is the engine bay to be looking at. things like unpainted hood hinges, whether gloss or semi gloss black air cleaner, inner fender wells, radiator hold down clamps. locations of decals, looking at the radio delete plate I wonder if the decal is original and what does it say? Also on the fire wall I see lite purple wires comming down behind the trans. dip stick, and also by the master cylinder. it kind of looks sloppy from a new truck viewpoint.

I've been following this truck since it " came out " and have never seen pictures of it in the barn other then the one above. There were video's on YouTube from the guy selling it, that did a " walk-around " of the truck, which also showed the paperwork and then they took it inside and put it on a lift to show the underneath of it.

Here's a blurry close-up of the radio delete plate
. . . it's hard to tell what it says, but I don't think it came from the factory.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale

I bought some NOS parts from his nephew. He was the one that first discovered the truck. He had pics that he showed me of the shed. There were trees, but mainly, about 3 foot of dirt piled up in front of the shed door. The reason no critters got to it, his grandpa put around 2-4 sheets of the thickest plywood around the inside of the building walls on the inside. The truck was surrounded by NOS parts for the truck. He said a lot of them were air filters, oil filters, Body rubbers, suspension joints, about anything he thought he would need he bought. He didn't know the truck was still on his granddad's property. He remembers when his grandpa bought it and actually picked him up from school in it, but never seen the truck again. I bought a NOS aftermarket brushguard from him that was designated for this truck. He still had some NOS parts for it. Still had NOS tires lol. Trevor
