Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
wouldn't you know it, murphy's law.
spend months looking for a boat to turn into a cartopper for my camper model, & last thursday this literally dropped in my lap. two dinghy's & a boat, but i had to take the other 3 as part of the deal($20!). son has already snagged the other ones anyways was'nt sure if a raft or the boat should go on the '64 raft....going down the river ...or boat, going fishing! |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
too many things on the go, decided to put my energy into finishing the stepper.
if i only knew what a pia this old truck was going to be, i would have dropped it on the floor & stepped on it! should have just kept the body & scratched the rest. got the interior together. being a mix-mash of parts, nothing fit, even had to make a steering column. 'bout the only part on this truck that has'nt been cut, modified, trimmed, sanded, scratched, was the seat. paint & drop in. my sunroof hole repair was looking kinda gumby, made a headliner, still need to trim the edge with a bead |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
some clean up on the frame, & made front springs(second set, dog stepped on 1st set & killed them!)
checking out the stance of it. things were finally starting to look up ...for about 12 seconds & this picture. soon as i put the box & interior tub in it, my homemade frame sagged a mil or 2 so the box & cab did'nt quite line up-bummer! thinking going to have to rotate them axles or drop the t-case, got some severe driveshaft angles happening! |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
so i found a bigger chunk of c-channel in my stash, decided to re-do the frame rails
plenty strong now, holding it on the end, & it don't bend! unfortunatly i only have enough to do 1 side. soon as the wife drags her butt out of bed in 20 minutes, going on a 40 mile trek to the hobby shop to get $15 worth of plastic(!?) |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
winter....grrrr
hours have'nt been this bad in yrs. take my frustrations out on my model. started making shocks, brake lines & some mirrors spent 3hrs on computer paint making fender emblems & t.gate lettering just have to make taillight brackets for the box, then paint the body. leaving it as is-stock couple more things to do to frame & susp., then painting it too. shocks, brake lines, vent tubes, gas tank, all the other stuff will go on after |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
hey, thanks OlBlue!
first day of spring? yeah right, just got 3 more inches of rain. horrible, horrible yr for hrs. got to do something to keep my mind off the bills! cant be affording the 60+ bucks for the old truck kits i like right now, so...more re-hashing! old wrecker model ('bout 20 yrs old). wrecker body will probably migrate to a '72 chev. undecided to go with a checkerplate flatdeck & make a knarly ol' bush truck, or shorten the frame to fit a shortbox i have & do a 1 ton dually shortbox. of course it will be 4x4 |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
cause i only want to pay for shipping once, i'm also ordering some swamps & 8 lug slot mags for this van i been playing around with for awhile. tires on it right now swiped i from one of my sons toys. probably going to ditch the crappy lift block lift with some proper springs too.
think i'm going to put the wrecker body on here. and yes, it will go 4by too. between the 3 trucks, this should keep my hands bloody till work picks up again! |

The van is cool reminds me of my high school days. Like the round window. I've got a century wrecker and been looking for 72 tonner to put it on

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I just stumbled on this thread, and thought someone had stolen my models!!! I have a crapload from in my mothers attic, that thinking someday I will do something with them...But right now my G/F is on her way home so we can get a real truck to build!!! I book marked the page where you got the tires and wheels and stuff, I will be building a model of my truck next winter.
Biggest problem I have is no where to paint. When it's nice out Im always doing something else, this summer probly playing softball with my daughter, and when not with her then riding the 4 wheelers with the G/F that she was so nice enough to buy!!!!! Your builds are awesome, I will be watching.. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
yeah b454rat, if you want to 4by any model, BNL Resin is the place to go. you might want to check out these guys too, LOTS of cool rims
http://www.scenesunltd.com/ i get most of my junk from these two and i'm always po'ing the wife for trying to spray my models in the house, too cold in the garage as well as real danger from doggie damage! once the nice weather hits, pretty much be it for models till next winter. we be camping & quadding too! did decide to go flatdeck though, shortbox dually porportions just did not look right. spent a half an hour getting the revell 1 ton rim to fit the swamper....times 6.... started throwing together a flatdeck hate how a "flat" flatdeck leaves everything uncovered hanging out lookin' ugly, so 2 lock boxes & checkerplate side skirting will go on, maybe a big c.plate tool box across the front too another gumby revell model, everything is molded in, the engine, visor, master cyc, mufflers, bah! list goes on. luckily when i first built it i cut out the molded engine & dropped a 350 in it. would like to go 454, dont have one, but i do have a 427, so there it be. going to remove a bunch of the molded in this time too |
