Re: headlights

I'm probably missing something but what do you all mean by installing HID's properly? I've installed numerous kits on my personal vehicles and others with no problems. What is so different about these trucks. Is it because you need to use a relay harness to run them from the battery instead of thru the trucks harness?

What they are referring to is the blinding glare that the blueish and purple HID kits cause and mounting them in regular headlights causes glare also..

check this out

these are clear 4x6 headlights with halogen H4 and xenon 6000K compared: see how much light there is in the dark top, where it should be dark, cause otherwise you are blinding oncoming traffic...

and this is what a bi-xenon projector looks like

check out my signature for my guide. pm me for any questions.

Re: headlights

I bought my HID kit for about 80 bucks. Includes the shields to run in reflector housings. Bright as hell and haven't been flashed too many times running down the highway. Cops don't seem to mind either. I bought the kit from modifystreet.com off of their ebay store. They come with all the harnesses you'll need along with the ballasts and the relay. Super easy to install, and like I said, brightest headlights I've ever seen.

I can try some with my high low projectors although kikk's projectors are a higher quality than mine.
Main issue is my camera doesn't do well in low light situations

Please don't buy these. They have no beam pattern other than spray. Other drivers will hate you. Way worse than even bad HID as far as pattern.

Regarding Autopals off Ebay. I have them - don't like them. The beam convergence is poor and narrow. Lost all the spill to the sides - kind of dangerous on curvey roads at night.

I hv been using them for 2 weeks don't have any problems maybe you hv not adjusted them right but I love them 100 times better than stock can see the entire road ahead of me, including sides , lights up signs better and know one has flashed me except on high beam.

Post a photo of what the beam pattern is when facing a wall that is ~ 25 ft away

Re: headlights

I am not going to enter into a pissing contest with you, like I said before I like them they work good for me and they are 100 percent better than stock. Do you even have these lights on your truck or are you just on of those I know it all people , who just heard some one say it, but never used it

Re: headlights

He just said he had them and didn't like them. It's possible you have a Wednesday set of autopsy headlights.

Either way its not hard to make bright lights. I have come up next to people on a six lane highway with thier silly hids in thier halogen housings and shown what happens when I turn my lights off. All six lanes 25ft ahead get real dark and that's with just my lows on bad projectors. They key is directing the light where you need it. Hella e codes are about the best you can get for any bright light. They have a cutoff pattern and don't throw the light in useless directions such as out to the side. So far what I have seen is there really isn't any good rectangle based design projector yet. They have very narrow patterns and usually don't fit well although they are somewhat of an improvement. Places like the retrofit source are a good start to making performance headlights for this generation. Other great ways to add visibility to our antiquated lighting is to run bigger alternators, run relays, convert h4 housings with sylvaina silverstars or just plain aim them better

Re: headlights

My final say on the subject. I will let other members handle the issue. It's relitevly simple. If you don't want to be blinded then don't do it on your vehicle without the equipment to do it proper. I built mine real cheap and so have many others.

Re: headlights

anubisani, if you get a chance, can you take a few pictures similar to the others posted above by kikkegek? I.e. a reasonable distance from a vertical wall, lows and highs. Maybe some down a stretch of road with no other ambient light? I am curious how they look from the driver's perspective.

this is not my everyday vehicle so I will try to do it on xmas night that's the next time I will prob . be driving it . And I hv driven it numerous times at night and never had anyone flash at me , unless I use high beams I hv adjusted them to shine onto the street as to not impede visibility of oncoming vehicles.

Is that glare from the camera lens or is it the headlights?

Well know for sure from the pattern on a flat surface out in front of his truck.

Re: headlights

needing better lights than stock that aren't uber expensive, i installed these 8" lights on my truck & wired them into my hi beams, on a dark road it lights up about 50 ft all around you & i swear a mile down the road-they are literally like instant daylight. also installed halogens with silverstars for reg use not to p.off other motorists, & yeah, like mentioned-good aiming. dicked around with mine for a few days till had good pattern & didn't blind other drivers

Re: headlights

anubisani

I for one may be one of the "US", in this conversation. I am not downing your choice of lights, but just not long ago, I had to work a night shift and every morning that I left work I had to face some stupid Loser with a blazer that had HIDs (uncontrolled in light aiming) and his wonderful HID fog lights. It was like driving into a solid wall of frigging light and you could not see even after he passed. It was so much more wonderful on the mornings that it was snowing and his lights glared off of that, also. He was from out of state, down South somewhere in the Southeastern part of the country.

Just so you are sure of your choice, I would recommend that you get into a lower profile car and go out and have someone meet you on the road, to see if you are comfortable with the pattern that you are supporting so heartily. Once you have done that and you are good with it, then it should be OK with "US".

Just so you are not going off on a tangent, I updated most of my vehicles with higher performance lights and wiring harnesses, but I DID the drive by test to see if I was putting everyone else at risk. Just so one of them would not drive into me, being blinded by what I had done.
