Re: granny trany help!

That is because the '63-'66 C20 and C30's have a flat lower control arm shaft, that attaches to the crossmember with regular bolts. Consequently the crossmember does not have the saddles necessary to accomodate the later model lower control arm shafts which are round. Converting a C20 or 30 to front disc brakes isn't as easy as on a C10. Here is a pic of a '63-'66 C20 lower control arm. There is the possibility that the disc brake lower ball joint will fit the '63-'66 LCA, but I have not been able to verify that.

Re: granny trany help!

the front to disc yes if you are going as far as it looks like you are i would take a little more time and update as much as you can and you will still have this truck when you are 50

Re: granny trany help!

Back when these trucks were new it wasn't as big of an issue since most everyone had drum brakes. Now days you have the cars and trucks in front of you, which have disc/drums or disc/discs slamming on their brakes and stopping in a shorter distance than a drum/drum vehicle can.

Re: granny trany help!

I agree......changing to a 4x4 is a big job. The change to front disc brakes and power steering can be done in 2 or 3 weekends.

Re: granny trany help!

Just so I'm getting this straight, i can keep my engine ,Trans and swap rear end out. And it will drive smoother? Also recommend disc all around or just the front to start with?

Re: granny trany help!

front to start.... rear is nice but not necessary yes your engine and trans ... wont drive smother just less rpm at the same speed and parts (brake drums, bearings and gears that are much more available)

Re: granny trany help!

about converting the fronts to disc. Will parts from a 80s c20 work? Spindles? Do i have to change control arms?

Re: granny trany help!

the lower arms wont fit your xmember i think if you get the right ball joints you can just change the spindles and ball joints and the outer drag link ends..... i would change the whole thing including the power steering
