Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
I ended up using the CPP zinc coated tank kit, good quality and fairly simple install. The fit is perfect and I like the tapered bottom of the tank which also includes a return bung so it's perfect for these applications.

Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
I'll be running the radiator that came with the truck. I don't believe it's original but it is a reproduction of the original and it's in good shape. I've already plumbed the tranny lines into the radiator as well as the steam port to the extra connector on the radiator. I'll also be running 2 electric fans so I'll see how that works for now before I upgrade.

Got her out to get some sun on her own power for the first time. (Checking fluids and need to fix a few minor leaks)

Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
Thanks!
I got them at the GoodGuys car show, seller had a truck full of sets in many colors. They are brand new take outs (second row) from I believe new honda odyssea vans. Middle console flips up/down and seats are high quality leather that fit very well and are comfortable. |

Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
I've been reading up on the accelerator / gas pedal conversion (Putter - No-Weld Accelerator Conversion) thanks bud! When an idea struck me. Having just bought a new welder I figured no better way to learn than to dive right in.
I wanted to use the stock holes but of course they do not line up. I followed Putter's documentation then realized if weld a washer to the metal plate I can reuse the original plate instead of cutting out a new piece out of scrap metal. Before: With washer to show idea After: Welded the washer and a bit of grinding, super strong. I have to say not bad for my first attempt at fabrication. Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
Took it around the block, no leaks! Runs strong, wouldn't shift into any gear and then realized transmission fluid was extremely low. Added a couple of quarts and now it shifts as smooth as our Tahoe.

Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
Put just enough body panels on the truck along with wiring up the turn signals and brake lights to make the journey across town to get exhaust. Trip was a success, I'm really happy with the results. I had not heard of Xlerator Turbo Mufflers but the shop recommended then when I asked for a simple inexpensive clean exhaust that is quiet and has some sound on acceleration. Went with 2.5 pipe all the way back, mufflers snug in-between the trailing arms with dumps right before the rear end. Install looks clean and extremely high quality welds!

Re: UXDesigner's 1970 5.3 Chevy Swap
Thanks guys, it's defintely coming along and the drivability has definitely increased motivation. I'm still debating on whether I should paint it myself or not but having read the paint & body threads lately I'm thinking i may do it myself.

Thanks! For a first time attempt, I'm surprisingly happy with the results. I couldn't have done it without all the great information I've gathered here from many talented individuals. |
