If it were me I would put everything from th 01 to the older truck but I like the challenges. I don't think you should have to do a lot of body chopping but you will have to create your new mounting positions. The gas tank I would probly try and see if they sale any aftermarket kits and see if there is any special brackets you can fab or order from them that would help again that's all about fab. Same with the dash. What I woul do is disassemble everything and lay it all out where I want it to go and than start figuring out mounting positions that best suit than worry about cosmetic touches that would make seem like it was supposed to be there in the first place. But the real challenge is starting the project just be ready for a little commitment becouse it sounds like you want to make a real sweet truck

Thanks, I really do. I want an 87 body that looks like it came with 5.3 from the factory and have as much options as possilbe. I want to make the cluster swap and steering column swap as clean as possible too.

I am probably just going to keep the 87 frame w/ the solid axle front, may end up bobbing the bed eventually. After the ls swap is done I am going to a 4" lift with max of like 33" tall tire. Just mostly for looks. This truck has great sentimental value to me and I will never get rid of it.

Sweet i won't get rid of mine either my family is are the origanal owners so there is also a lot sentiment behind mine as well. I'm trying to do as much up date as possible but I will also keep the body look the same just modern internals and frame

Im in for the longhaul, keep us updated! I plan on starting a build thread when i get closer to a starting point and have more ordered.

Currently I am going to clean and modify all drivetrain related stuff on the 01 chassis b/c I can still crank it up and drive it around. Then when I have everything ready and my ducks in a row, Imma take out my 350tbi/700r4 combo (with only like 8k miles on it) and sell it and get it done! I havn't been this excited in a while!

Got the box completely cleaned out so now it can finally come off, just one more bolt. Undid all the wiring and removed tailgate and bumper.. Busy this weekend but I'll keep picking at it and maybe I'll have the box off by next weekend and start working out a way to get the cab lifted off.

I have running driving 72 c20 and 00 silverado. Ultimately I want the vortec powering the 72. should i do body swap like this with the 00 frame drive train and suspension. or should i motor swap and have the 72 frame and components? which one is easier,
*note using hand tools in my garage no lift/welder/plasma/compressor/knowledge or anything that would make this simple.

While I wait for the cab and box to be hauled away, I'm throwing most of the front suspension back on so I can mount the wheels. I'll need them to center the new front clip and just see where everything needs to sit.

Almost all the needed suspension is back on.. Need to drill out my spindles to accept the 5/8 bolt for the tie rod, yes those are zip ties lol they will suffice for mock up purposes!

Well that escalated quickly lol. This will be close to ride height in terms of where the suspension is sitting.Look at the upper ball joint and tie rod angles... What an improvement!!

Boy am I frustrated!

After countless attempts to remove this cab in one piece, I finally got fed up and just went full retard.

I can't really say I ever pictured taking a sawzall to my once beloved truck.... but times change I suppose....



Now were making progress!!

Got the cab sitting on the back of the 72 frame, now to unbolt the cab, remove, and call the wrecker for the 72 chassis and cut up cab!!

Well it wasn't easy and almost to stressful at a couple points but the old cab is finally gone! Good thing to, I couldn't stand it anymore.

I'm going to see about getting the 72 over and finish tearing it apart.

Friend of mine came and grabbed my 72 chassis last night, so no more garbage! Hes putting a 53 body on it.... Glad it's gonna be recycled instead of sent to the scrap yard!

It's now sitting in st paul




Cut the fender a bit today to see how much wiggle room I have with suspension travel.
With the frame lift and new lower control arms it's going to sit about 3" lower then this, so might have to cut a bit more. Step by step!

Cut the other fender out and cleaned up most of the crap off the firewall.... Just dicking around until I can find a welder to make cab mounts and stuff...

Gotta say though this is looking pretty awesome!
