Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
I'm sure he can still make one for a 4X4.
Yes i have one, i'm not finished with the install tho, i have been battling being sick all winter and its wearing me out, i hope to finish the install this spring. I also don't know a part number and the receipt is buried somewhere, i'm sure if you called Boyd he could provide the info. EDIT: I should add that being as i have a K20 i think the frame is a bit different from a K10 frame, the distance between the upper and lower flanges are different. Don't know if you have a K10 or K20 frame. Here's a pic of the install this is with the flanges of the tank bolted to the bottom of the frame, this actually put the 90* fill about 1/4" below the top of the upper frame rail, the only way to raise the tank now is to ether have a welder move the flanges down a little on the tank or cut out the rivets to the cross member, remove it and slide the tank in from the back putting the tank flanges between the frame rails. Or i could just take a torch and heat the frame rail up and bend it down a little to gain a little clearance for the rubber gas hose to keep it from rubbing on the top rail.

Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
I dug up the original group buy thread Boyd did, after reading it again yea i think it is a 2wd tank. I got mine a few years ago so there could be some changes thru the years.
The group buys are now thru this thread, contact them to see if its still going on. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ight=Group+buy

Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
been busy, this last month i have been having alot of family problems, but im back at it now. thursday I got the front axle put back together so i rolled it outside friday after work (man that felt good to see it rolling again). After that friday I pulled the engine out of my truck. 468, scat forged rotating assembly, 781 reworked heads, 10.1 compression.
My plan is to clean it up and paint it then swap it in the frame. I am hoping my 800 dollar headers are going to work on the 4wd frame. Time will tell. |

Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
Your engine build is simular to mine, I did a lot of porting on the heads and intake and a bit on exhaust too.

Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
Well I tried to stap the engine and trans this morning, it didnt go very well. The oil pan hits the crossmember pretty bad. It hits and I still need the motor to go foward about and inch for the mount to line up. So I dont know what im gonna do now, either new pan or diy4x4 crossmember, but have heard diy4x4 crossmember doesnt fit well either.

Re: 70 GMC 4wd version
What is the pan from a 2wd or 4wd, believe they are different in Big block just like small block, could just swap the pan...or start cutting a notch in the crossmember, have done that before, cut a piece out flipped it upside down and welded it back in, easy.

This also means the use of a small diameter stock sized distributor to clear the firewall. I have not studied this in depth but its what i have gathered from this forum. I don't know if the 4X4's cross member is different. but if necessary you could probably find one local or maybe here on the parts board and install it. or maybe you can just drill a couple holes and move it?
