Got my side marker lights in, even with new bulbs only part of them are working but I'll trace that gremlin down a little later.




New ones for the back.



Got the valve covers pulled off, looks like everything is oiling good, nothing visibly in too bad of shape. Gonna get in there with the shop vac and clean everything real good.

Glad I didnt try and add oil that way!!!!!

Hit them with a couple of cans of brake cleaner, a can of paint stripper, then took them to the car wash.


Turned out pretty clean!


Paint is drying now, pictures to come later of that!

Didn't do much to the truck last night but I did start spraying some black under the hood. Got the radiator support done.


Been using VHT Roll Bar & Chassis Black, this is some pretty good stuff!

Thanks! That's been the basic idea behind the build. To build a show truck, I would have been better off hauling everything but basically the frame and cab to the scrap yard and starting over and honestly, most people would have culled the truck for even that idea. But with making a few improvements, I'm taking that scrap yard truck and turning it into something cool enough to take to the local cruise night and show off with very little money.

In fact, for the sake of money and low budget talk, I'm not afraid to share what I've got in the truck.

Truck: $1,000
Initial Repairs @ Shop: $200
Sold old project truck: -$800(my dad gave it to me a few years back, he got it on a deal where he had basically nothing in it)
Cleaning supplies: $40
Paint Supplies: $180
Parts: $200

So I've got a few more things to buy, new hoses, fuel pump, probably a cap and a rotor button, tires, oil change, I think I have a used steering wheel at home, still need mirrors, probably another 500-700 to spend on it. But as of now, I've got less than a grand in it, I'm happy with that

Made some good progress tonight, someone found about three hours to work on the truck without interruption.

Hand painted the Chevrolet on the back, I think it turned out pretty good. I'm not fully involved in the mind set of the build, I'm doing everything as if it were 1972 and I was building this truck for "my" gas station. If I had bought this truck to turn into a service truck and painted it, I would have wanted the Chevrolet back in the back, but its not like you could call Year One in '72 and order a decal or stencil kit.




All stenciled up and ready to go, gotta admit, at this point I was VERY nervous about what I was doing!





The back, went ahead and tossed my bumper sticker on and one esso sticker, I could only handle so much stencil work in a row.




The lettering isn't perfect, but I love it. Again, going with the thinking of the build, in 1972 its not like there were too man professionals at this. You probably got the same guy that came around and lettered your old race car to do it, or your buddies wife that has nice hand writing, etc. etc.








When I pulled some tape off, it brought a little paint with it, which is PERFECT, love the aged look it gave it.


Gonna wet sand the truck hopefully tomorrow to take away a little of that spray can look and add some aged look to it!

Went back and fourth on wet sanding, glad I did, wanted to take some shine off and make it look aged.

Got the door logo on, its a little small, but looks better close up in person and on the ground. Also, notice the Goodyear decals over the front wheels. Gotta figure out a way to age the door decals somehow.

Looks great. I like it! I like simple fun lettering. Too many people get wrapped up in getting fancy. Cool. You may be able to sand the decal also. Although it will probably tear around the edges first. You could make a stencil of it yourself too. Wouldn't be too hard.

Haven't made any updates over the past few days but I've been busting my tail on the truck. Since I got it basically I've had a fuel problem. I thought it was just a bad fuel pump or a stopped up line. So this week I installed an electric pump, no fuel, blew the lines out in every place I could and hooked the mechanical back up, same problem, hooked the electric back up, no fuel, I've just about pulled my hair out. Not to mention I was trying to get it done for our local toys for tots show last Saturday. So anyway Friday night as I was about to give up my buddy stopped by, I had him put a second set of eyes on it and of course he found the problem. Where the medal line come up from the bottom into the cab, then turns to rubber and back to medal, I had a cracked line, for some reason when they installed the new tank, they didn't replace this line. So I quickly fixed that, only to find a I had a leaking metal line right out of the cab. No big deal, for the time being I was just going to replace that with rubber to get me going Saturday. So I hooked it all up in the cab, then went to let it back up in the air to finish it up when things started to go wrong. The lift started making an odd sound, like it was in a bind, I knew something was wrong, so I immediately started to let it back down. Too late, the cable broke. It caught on three of four safety latches.








Yeah, that cable came way too close to my leg for comfort. Holy crap,what a close call!! So yeah, truck didn't make it Saturday, not sure exactly what the next step is!!




In other news on the project, I did install my new rear tail lights. The bed is beat up so bad I just used the old trim since new wouldn't fit right anyway.



Not that it matters now, but I fed her a little race fuel for the weekend!


Speaking of my buddy, check what he brought me by! How awesome is this gonna be in the bed!

Little update on the truck. So Thursday night I got a couple of buddies to come over and help with it. We ended up getting all but one corner of the lift to the ground and were going to pull it off with a truck. Long story short, the dang muffler got hung so we had to get out of the truck, leaving it with no driver, we cleared the muffler with a big pry bar, and all was well until the wheels cut hard left and proceeded to drag my truck and a Toyota back forward. Oooops.




So we were worse than before.

Anyway, finally got it off today. Managed to scratch the drivers door the other night, today I crunched the other fender. I guess I wanted a little "use" in the truck, to convince the old look, I'm not sure this is how I wanted to get it, but it tells a story for sure!





So at least its on the ground. Now that my lifts down, looks like its gotta go to my buddies shop to finish up after all.
