Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
Wasted that turbo you used is huge! I'm concerned about the leaf suspension I have now but don't really want to go 2wd... granted that may be my only option if I want to go fast and take a corner.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
You aren't going to go fast and take a corner in a 4wd truck. You might be better off finding a 2wd truck and going from there. If your body is in good shape you could just do a body swap.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
...AND you want it to turn? Picky picky. In my day a man would have been happy with either going fast OR turning....now they want both.
He's right in a sense. Tall sidewall tires, leaf springs, high center of gravity and extra unsprung mass...don't really add up to cornering. Now a 2wd truck with a 3/4link or trailing arms, and a good wheel/tire combo, that will turn. Take a look at the Ridetech and Holley trucks....I have pictures of them from the road course on the Optima Challenge. They can turn.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
Yea I'm the kind of person who knows what he wants and won't stop till he gets it. I just need to figure out what I want.
My import friends keep trying to persuade me into building a mean car... but something keeps pulling me back to the trucks. I've got a little time to think about suspension. The 5.3 is a the house on the stand as of Friday afternoon. Should have some time tomorrow morning to start digging in.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
Hahah, import guys don't really gave a good truck option, so they have bed envy.
I will say that a good balance will get you a truck that your plenty happy with. If you can keep your goals in check, then you can probably end up with a pretty sweet setup; what I mean by that is... If you build a good turbo engine (but hold back from building a MONSTER), then you can also usually dial in suspension, braking and weight. With the amount of weight you have to carry, finding a way to upgrade AND save weight might really benefit you. Switching to disks all the way around does both well, as does going to a nice aluminum bodied shock (my qa1's changed the way my truck rides 30%+). Might even be worth thinking about a tubular k member too, if there is one that suits the 4x4 well, I'm not 100% sure on that one. Its a slightly different caliber, but I've seen some very interesting concepts for weight savings (and LS truck power) at the KOH the last few years.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
True that. I definitely want to go upgrade the disks in the front and swap disks in the rear. Just need to figure out which ones will work best with the rims I have.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
I can confidently tell you that I have no desire to see what the internet yields to those search terms.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
6.5 turbo diesel 4x4 dually... unknown miles... old man truck and the owner passed away... Transmission 4l80e...
$350 Should I get it? All of the 4l80es that are ls transmissions are going for $1000+ so If I can get this one itll be a win. My buddy says monster transmission sells build 60e's but yall are swearing by the 80s.

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
I think I answered my own question with this http://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-...otor-help.html
So now I'm down to, If the transmission seems to be A OK is there any advantages between this versus an ls 80e?

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
And so I'm guessing with the flywheel, spacer, and bolts I will be able to run this 80e

Re: Twin turbo 5.3?
Yes you will, the early 6.0 used the 4l80e that had been used on the non ls motors. Hence the spacer to properly engage the torque converter hub.

I was concerned because it's in a 6.5 dually but I have to keep reminding myself... they're all HD work transmissions lol.
