You have no idea how many times that has crossed my mind. I am more worried about my drop member than my head.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Well, I got a little done this weekend, but nothing accomplished. I stripped the interior and installed my high hump tranny cover. I also found more rust than I was bargaining for. The usual places will need replaced plus a little on the floor pan as well. I started taking apart the front suspension to install the PB drop member and found that I was going to have to pull the engine, tranny, and at least dismount the front of the cab to install it. I had another bare roller frame that is in excellent condition, so I decided to strip it down and install the PB hardware on it instead. I got the front crossmember, steering linkage, and new SS brake lines removed before I ran out of time. Sorry no pics, but I was beginning to look forward to returning to work so I could take a break.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Can someone who has installed the PB extreme drop member help me out? I'm wanting to keep my truck a manual tranny, not sure which tranny, so what did you guys do about the frame pivot point for the clutch pedal on the drivers side frame rail? It's located right where I need to mount the shock extensions. Modify? Different setup?

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

This weekend I got the frame stripped and loaded to go to a friends shop for some steering notches and prep for Porterbuilt extreme rear kit, which I hope to be ordering soon!

Killer plans....I'm in too.
Can't help you on the clutch question. I've never had a manual.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

I got dangerously close to spending $689 on the flaming river billet power rack and pinion setup. I talked myself out of it and got new seals, bearings, and brake hardware for my drop spindles.

Got to save up for my rear drop member!

Of course everyone wants the big 14 inch brakes with billet calipers, but that can be added anytime rather easily with these spindles.

They make hydraulic clutch kits for just about every manual trans option. You could ditch the bracket and go that route.

I've about decided to just go auto with it. I've been through your build thread. Love the rendering.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Thanks man. I was headed the manual route with mine too since it was originally one, but with my kids i need all the room in the little cab i have so its going auto too.

Cant to see where you take yours. One thing i have learned is i spend more time shopping for parts and waiting on them then i do working on mine right now lol!

That is so true! Since I drive a truck I have a nice collection of parts but none have made it on the truck yet. I spend most of my time deciding on a direction and then changing my mind.

Don't worry, most of us go through the same thing. I have changed my mind so many times now. It drives my wife C R A Z Y ! There is still a few things I wish I would have done differently but you have to draw a line sometime or it will never get finished. The thing I notice is the more you read through the builds on here the more cool ideas you see & want to incorporate. So many talented people here with amazing ideas and mods. I am honored to be a part of this site.

One big one I did was my firewall. I initially wanted to keep the factory A/C so I cleaned up & painted my firewall. Then I saw a bunch of shaved firewalls so I ground down my freshly painted firewall & re-did it, incorporating several mods that I liked. I love my firewall now but wish I would have done the steering column hole with a billet mount instead of the factory one, and wish I would have hidden the wiring harness. Oh well, still looks clean. So ya, you'll change your plans several times during the build

If I ever do another build I will definitely do several things differently.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is so wishy-washy when it comes to these builds.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

One day at a time is all it takes. If you look at the entire build it's sometimes overwhelming, so just pick off one thing at a time and you'll be on the road in no time. It took me 8 years to get mine on the road, but that includes a failed back fusion surgery and hip surgery with months & months of downtime. I still have to deal with the F'd back so little things are a big deal to me now. But I keep going, a little bit at a time. The really nice thing is that mine has been driveable for the last 2 years. So 10 years for me and still have many more to go at the rate I am going...lol
