Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

Alright figured out another way to post pictures (with my phone ) the one pic shows the how the original column mount under the dash and the one at the floor board is more of a seal and just keeps the column from moving around I just don't know if I should leave it as it is I kinda don't fell like it would be strong enough although there is metal in the rubber should I scrap that and put a brace of some kind any opinions would be appreciated

Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

I will follow along as i too have a 55 1st and the EZ Chassis swap kit. That project got put on the back burner to finish a 72 cheyenne swb my dad started.

Fu ny thing, i had a set of wheels like yours (after researching they were Z28, there are differences) that i thought about running, but sold them for a tidy profit. I picked up some slot mags instead.

I am going to be running a 4.3 v6 in mine for the time being, since i have it already, but dream of an ls swap someday.

Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

I forgot to ask. What is the purpose of the tubular a arms? Does it space the wheels out any further than stock?

Just changed to tubular control arms because they look better and they came with new bushings and ball joints

Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

I've noticed that the axle is a little bit too far back on some S10 builds too. Where you moved your's to looks perfect. How did you relocated your axle 1-1/2 forward? I was thinking of using solid lowering blocks and simply drilling the hole in the bottom of the block off center to relocate the axle.

Short of soda blasting them you can try just about any of the MOTHERS alum wheel cleaners to brighten them up.

Or an old trick for stripping anodizing from aluminum is EZ OFF oven cleaner. Dont leave it on for HOURS , just about 15-20 minutes does the trick. If you can warm them it works quicker. Then just take a medium 3M scotchbrite pad to them.

I do this on all my old AN fittings that I buy in red blue black and make them look like polished alum again.... works great.

Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

Love the build!!! Also, can I bug you to share a bit more info on the steering column? That is one good looking setup! What are all of the specs required to get one like this. I like it in plain steel, for a floor shift with a key? Also is it a 28" or a 30" thanks!

Re: 55-1 S-10 Chassis Swap

Thanks ptc do I wipe off the easy off or wash it off
Steve Aleve I don't remember if the column is a 30 or 32 inch but either length should work for a floor shift but I don't think I will end up using it, I got it off ebay not a bad price if I remember, but once I put it together and installed it, the ignition switch would turn without a key in it, so my bud who is a locksmith put a new tumbler in it and that fixed that, then I noticed that I could shift gears with the ignition locked not good I don't know if I just install the shift lever in correctly, or if it is defective, if your going with a floor shifter I would get one, it's RPC brand Chinese made but unless I can get it squared away I will probly just use the S 10 column

Yea just wash it off with soapy water. I havent used it on the satin finish before so try it on a small area first.
