Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
Very cool truck and a great gift to your dad. I had the pleasure of having a real good look at his truck at the swap meet. I probably looked at it for about 10 miniutes and there was so many people interested in that truck. It was kinda funny because I asked the guy in the tent beside the truck if it was his and he said " I dont Know the guy droped it off here and and have not seen him since". I had the feeling that who ever owned the truck was not very interested in selling and I was right ha ha. I'm building a 59 as well and was really hoping to find those spears but no luck. you are lucky to have a truck that is that complete. If that truck was mine I would not even paint it because it has such a cool look. Good luck with the project!

Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
My dad and I finally had the chance to start in on his fleetside last weekend. The first priority is to repair the rusted areas of the bed and we might as well get the rear end lowered while the frame is bare. We will be using weld in inner bed panels from Mar-K. We've got a replacement front bed panel as well and a new rear bumper to use with a rear roll pan.

Along for the build. One of the coolest things I've seen in a long time, vid of your dad getting the truck.

Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
Not much of an update, but last weekend dad and I were able to get the front axle pulled out to be sent off to Sid for a 3" drop. We will also be installing some Posies 3" dual flex springs which should give it a nice stance.

Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
After cleaning a shop vac full of debris from the cowl vent yesterday, I have to ask does somebody make and sell a cowl filler panel without vents in it?

Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
None of the a/c units commonly available for these trucks have a fresh air provision, so if you block of the cowl vent you have no option for venting the cab other than opening the window. I didn't want to block mine but did want to keep out the leaves and trash so here's what I did to my vent. It's aluminum screen and forms easily to the panel. I used hot glue to hold it temporarily while I installed it but it's sandwiched in between the vent panel and cab when you get the screws in.
Your truck is a beauty, You were lucky to have found that jewel. I guess I should say your Dad was lucky you found it, LOL. |

Re: Dad's '59 Retirement Plan
We might be going a different route with the wheel/tire combo. I want to do something a little different with this one. This was just a tire I have kicking around the shop and thought it looked neat.
