Re: New guy here with our old GMC.

Congrats on the truck! Sierra Grande big block longhorn isnt one you see every day. As for the tailgate, if you find a chevy gate the correct color, the chevy stamping gets covered by the aluminum gmc panel anyway. Have parted trucks that had this from the factory. Gmc gate with chevy panel as well. Fyi a lot of your questions can be answered by searching the site.

Thanks wideside72. I am on the hunt for a ochre/white tailgate now whether it's Chevy or GMC. Is it hard to find a GMC panel with the wood grain? I a laid off for the winter, so I have have had plenty of time to do research and learn from the vets here.

Believe me, I have asked numerous times. This spring I will be delivering it to him before it sits any longer. Someday it will be mine.

Re: New guy here with our old GMC.

Very nice truck you have there, and welcome. GM came out with the 400 big block (402) in 1970 I believe, its just a bored out 396, I do think the block has thicker cylinder wall thickness to it thow, (trying to remember from my hotrod days). OLDTIMERSDESEASE....

Re: New guy here with our old GMC.

Well, I was on my way home, and thought I'd swing by and check on her today. Virtually no rodents in the cab or under the hood. I guess 70 days of constant negative temperatures will do that to them. Cracked the hood finally..thank god my father took the battery out when we parked it. No luck on getting the door lock out though or the side box open, damn wind was killing me standing out there. Snapped a few more pictures. Only one more month and I might be able to get it out! My favorite thing has to be the gun rack in the back window.

Question about the interior though. With the parchment trim, my headliner is white, as are my visors and door panels. How come my door handles are black, and my seat and seat belts are black? Or is this how they come?

I also found the "TRUCK CITY GMC Grand Forks, ND" on it. Couldn't find anything on this company though. I am trying to figure out where this thing was purchased, and who bought it originally. I am the third (fourth technically) owner, and the second was a family friend who passed away two years ago. So I am at a dead end now.

The arm rest were probably replaced at one time due to wear. Nice looking truck.

Cool little Chevelle. You have a nice pair of vehicles to get going there.

Welcome to the board from St.Louis, MO. You have a great looking truck! Check under the seat or on the back of the seat for a build sheet

Re: New guy here with our old GMC.

nice truck and cool chevelle. I have a 71 chev 3/4 with the 402 big block engine & auto trans. It was really good for pulling. Unfortunately just last sunday a valve spring broke. the keepers came out and it swallowed a valve. Locked up and antifreeze came out the exhaust. I guess Ill swap in a 454 that I have. The 402 didn't use enough gas anyway. LOL

Good point. I'm still learning and decoding these things. Not sure why it has YE9Cheyenne Super though. From what I understand that is Chevy only. Shouldn't it be listed as Z17 Sierra Grande Truck? It also has the Z81, which I understand to be the camper. And the Z84 Custom Sport Truck, which I haven't figured out yet.

Re: New guy here with our old GMC.

I'll trade you a truck key for the Chevelle....LOL
To find that nice of a truck with those options (wood bed, big block, and toolbedbox) is a luckyday

the 396 was to satisfy GM's rule about under 400 cubic inches in their vehicles (only corvettes etc had more cubic inches), in 70 the ban was lifted so the 396 was bored .30 over to be a 402, but they called it a 400 and in 72 it was a 402. Cars kept the 396 badging to no confuse the buying public.
