Grew up in South- West Va. A little town called Gate City. My first was a 1970 Stepside. It was 9 when we got it and the rockers (inner and outer) were already gone. Normal.

I NEED that trailer. The local national street rod show won't let me in with my classic drag boat because hey only allow "luggage" trailers. All the yuppies with new glass 32s with matching trailers would lose their minds!

Speaking of Virginia, a guy I work with ended up with this '02 GMC Sierra Z71 that came from Virginia and it is very rusty. The gas tank was being held in by a couple of ratchet straps. This thing blew my mind! Living here in the south, I have never seen a 12 year old vehicle with any rust whatsoever, let alone totally rusted out. This thing really made me appreciate never having to drive my cars on salt. The guy that had this truck paid $1000 for it hoping to make some money on it, and he couldn't hardly give it away down here. It ran and drove fine and had a nice interior.

Of the 20+ 67-72 Chevy trucks I've owned over the years, I've never had one this rusty...

That's been the norm forever up there. I think it was the worst in the 80's early/mid 90's when they got the cars metal to be thinner/lighter but hadn't done all the inner electronic coatings, etc. Out of the trucks, Tacoma's were the worst of any. A 10 year old Tacoma would need a new frame and the bed would be 1/3 gone after 10 years.

You can have a vehicle here and it won't rust just don't drive it in the winter and don't drive it in rain if it has not rained in a while the coal trusck splash a chemical called magnetiite and it eats metal back in the 70s when it rained the road and all the creeks and streams turned black with like a sludge .

Yea I think up near winchester and the far end of va it was not bad my sons 68 came from harrisonburg still way more rust than my 67 from knoxville tn ,

I grew up in swva too (wise county). You know that it snows a lot there. More than people think and people are hard on their trucks. Pure utility.

It's not the state,it's the region. The Eastern Seaboard has milder winters and no coal mining. It's the same for all States in the east that are coastal in the east to Appalachian mountains in the west

wont tell you what year "truck bed trailer" we used on the farm to haul wood/rocks and so forth, but back then it was just a old truck.. we pulled it behind the 71, back when it was new..

A lot of people used to just push these over a mountain to get rid of them if you go out digging ginseng about all you can find is the park lights and the clutch and brake pedal pads it takes them longer to rust ,,,,,

Its a combination of factors. In the winter when a little snow is predicted they coat the entire area with a salt brine mixture that is bad on our cars. I always rinse my cars off ASAP when i dirve them in that crap, like this morning. Also being on the coast so we get salt spray off the ocean and bay year round and lastly many people with trucks like to drive them on the beach down in Corolla NC. I bet that guy that owned that truck enjoyed a litle surf fishing or camping on the beach. In short many vehicles around here get bombed with some form of salt and chemical exposure just about year round.
