Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Originally, I was going to create new power steering lines using AN fittings. What I found was the AN fittings on the power steering box were to high to place the inner fender well back on. Instead of cutting into the fender well, and after some massaging of the original lines, I made them fit. I had to use the small fitting on the back of the old power steering pump so I could use the same ends on the original power steering lines. The new power steering pump (part #198-100) I am using is part of the Holley LS accessory drive and bracket kit. I love the whole set up...

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
That's all I have for now... I am working on completing the American Autowire kit I purchased from MCB Matt. I have never done a complete wire job on anything, and have never done an LS conversion. It is very daunting for me hence the time I have been working on this project. I have to be done before the first week of June so I can drive this beast in the American Graffiti Parade.
I will post more photos as I chug along in the next several weeks. If you have any questions, please ask! Thanks for looking!

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Hey folks, some more progress and changes...
I had to move the mega fuse buss cause of the proximity to the header. It is now located driver side frame rail, on the opposite side of the power steering gear box. I have also included photos of the stock power steering lines I used and a photo of the part I removed from the old power steering pump. It's some sort of fitting that screws in to the rear of the power steering pump. It came out really good and I am happy with the results.

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Anyone using this set up for radiator and water pump? The entire accessory drive system, including the water pump are from Holley. I am searching for a one piece hose, 1 1/4 inch diameter, and am hoping someone has already done the research.
Also included some photos of the wiring I am about to start on... Fun! (not) (For whatever reason, photos are not uploading in the order I have set them, sorry for the mixed order of the post. )

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Hello folks,
Slow progress - but got some wiring done. The whole front end is now wired up; headlights, parking lights and turn signals... I started working on the brakes, manually bled the master cylinder and was all dumb fat and happy when I was done. When I tried to bleed the whole system, front right caliper started leaking like a sieve. Order a new one, painted it and then realized they gave me the driver side instead of passenger side... Rinse and repeat, this time with the correct side. (I double checked before paint) Start bleeding brakes, then the two rear calipers leak... So in process of ordering those as well. The rear end I am currently using is a 79 Cadillac Seville rear which had disc brakes. Pain in the a$$ finding those calipers as they are a special order for some reason... No new pics to post as of now, be back soon!

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
My hat is off to anyone that assembles a new brake system and it doesn't leak.
I would be interested in how you run the emergency brake cables for the Cadillac brakes. I have installed this type before but it was on an Impala. Informational to other board members; The caliper for the Cadillac doesn't use a drum for the E-brake. A cable applies the disc brake caliper. I always recommend DOT5 fluid. It will not damage the paint. I could have stripped my truck with the fluid leaks I had if I would have used DOT3. LOL |

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
IIRC the Caddy rear brake mod you absolutely need to adjust the parking brake FIRST, before bleeding to allow the rear calipers the movement they need to bleed. From my understanding that is a PIA

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Evening Gents!
Its been a very long and arduous road... I would do many things different, considering this was my fist restoration. The paint and body (I hope) is finally done. Here are a few pics of the final product. (for now) Exterior photos. The interior isn't done yet, but its drivable. I will be doing the rest of the work myself. Any feedback you have is welcome!

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Here are some additional photos of the engine bay and interior. The goal was to get rid of anything chrome and replace it with flat black. The engine bay and the frame itself is 90% gloss black, which I regret now as the gloss scratches easily when washing or dusting off. Most, if not all, nuts and bolts are grade eight and gold color. The truck is painted Tawney gold. I know, MOPAR color on a Chevy. Blasphemous! But, I really liked the color. Rear lights will be replaced once I get the truck in my possession. Trying to decide if I want the moldings around the rear lights? Of course, they will be satin black as well. Enjoy!

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
Truck look fantastic! You can get vent windows in black if you want to eliminate the chrome. I have a set I would trade you for the chrome ones if you are interested. They will need new weatherstripping.

I couldn't even get new chrome vent windows complete, in a timely manner. Everyone was on back order for one or the other and buying them separately was $$. I did not find any black ones. Do you recall where you got them from?

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
There were black and chrome available from the factory. Base model trucks got the black and higher optioned trucks got the chrome.

Are they painted black? Or coated with something?
Thank you for the pics!

Re: Introductions and 1970 C10 Project
I like it a lot. IMO, you need the trim around the rear tail lights, and as you said, in your case painted black. I'm interested to see how the interior turns out.

That's my next step. I'll get the trim for the taillights and post pics of interior as I go. I think I'll be getting matt black decals for the indented "CHEVROLET" on the tailgate, to brake up all the green back there.
