Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

Dad, grandpa, heck most of my family owned one and/or a 73-87 square body (this was in 80s/90s). The one that influenced me the most was my grandpas truck. 72 1 to dually with a stake flatbed that my dad added a dump conversion to. It was yellow ochre with a white top and roof lights. Black interior, I think it was a custom? It had the scrolled door panels and the seat was black vinyl with the cloth inserts with the scrolling in the vinyl along the inserts.

I still have the door panels and steering column/wheel in my truck, and I have the PS set up laying on the floor from it.

My Dad had a '68 3/4 Ton. It had a 307 with a three on the tree. It had saddle tanks and the spare tire out in front. He had it for years before he got a '76 Silverado and sold the '68 to my Cousin who took it to Alaska where it eventually rusted away.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

This is the '67 small window my Grandad bought to replace the '49 5 window, when it cracked the block. This truck went from Grandad, to Dad, to my uncle, to me, then my brother, my stepson and back to me. Grandad got it 2 days before my brother was born. I had to spend that afternoon sitting in the truck in the hospital parking lot. I was more impressed with the truck than I was my brother.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

Yep, I remember in 1972, taking my dad to the dealership where he bought a clean used 69 GMC with only 20,000 miles on it. He paid the astronomical sum of $1400 ( which was a lot in 1972). He used it on the farm for 17 years, and when he passed away, I inherited it. I fixed it up a little, and drove it several years, then let my son drive it through high school. He graduated, bought a newer truck, went on to college, and I got it back a few years ago.

Dad had a 65 or 66 1/2 ton that was the first thing I ever crashed my bike into. I learned to go before I learned to stop

Yes and it was my first vehicle. 69 GMC 2500 Sierra Grande Longhorn. It was a beast. I wish I had it today.

My mother would not allow a pickup in the driveway.
She thought it made you look poor. Its all I have

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

My pop bought a brand new I think it was a 72 Lwb with a 396, came solid orange with all the trim and a black vinyl top on it or whatever they sprayed on it then and black interior. I am trying in my own way to recreate that truck with the one I am building now and as soon as I can afford it will be painting mine the same color and may even try to replicate the black top only this time with real vinyl!!

Absolutely. My dad still owns his 1970 Chevy c20 longbed stepside. It was starting to look pretty bad.
I bought a 68 C10 Stepside recently, and as I have been working on mine, he has finally decided to rebuild his as well.

I can still remember riding back home from the dealership with my Dad, when he bought his 71 chevy longbed.. only 307 with 3speed column shift.. lol.. only option, AM radio and pin stripe.. of course in green, he had just got back from Korea I believe and just stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood.

I would love to find that truck he had it for 20 years...

My dad drove Buicks.
But I had an uncle who had a '68 C10 that he used on the farm. Does that count?

I didn't grow up around these trucks, but I did have a lot of memories riding with Papa in his 56 GMC short step. I loved that old truck.

My uncle has always had GMCs and Buicks because they come from the same dealership. He had a dark green 67 GMC and then a blue 72. Some of my earliest memories include my mom driving the green one back from the fields at hay time. She was no good with a floor-shift stick, and even worse with 3-on-the-tree.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

My dad bought his first pickup truck in 1970. It was a left over new 1969 Custom 307 3 on the tree. I was 13 when he brought it home and it was the vehicle I drove when I turned 16, a lot of firsts for me happened in this truck.

When he traded it in 1976 on an F150 I wanted to buy it from him but he wouldn't let me cause he thought it was worn out, man if he could see these trucks now. The Ford turned out to be a pile and he traded it on another Chevy in 1978 a 305 3 on the tree he liked his manual trans.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

My dad had a '70 C10 it was pretty clean except the right fender which someone putt about 3 quarts of Bondo on and barely sand then painted with a brush. I always hated that fender!!!

My step dad had a '68 or '69 4x4 Suburban that was used mostly for hunting. I learned to drive in it.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

My Dad bought this 1967 Chevy C-20 Custom Camper New 11/66... Got the Boat the same day From Branine Chevrolet, Mulvane, Ks

This is what the truck looked June 2004:

My Dad Passed away December 4, 2004 and I inherited the Pickup... This is what it looked like in March 2011 Just before it was stolen out of my Moms garage:

This is what it looked like when the truck was found 3/30/11:

This is what it looks like today...

We are getting there and I am probably a good 2 years from finishing it... All the cab Sheet Metal is OEM stuff... I just got impatient on the bed and went aftermarket and I have to say I am regretting that decision...

Enjoy guys... You can see my build thread called: Project "Class Act"...

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?

My grandad bought one for 500 bucks back in the 70s. It was a 6-3OTT, then someone transplanted a 307 with a Muncie.my grandad and dad told me with the 4.11 gears and the four speed it would just lay a strip of rubber all the way through town. But it actually rusted so bad that two guys could probably shove the cab off of the frame..... what a shame

No, dad didn't but my grandfather did. He had a white '71 6cyl 3 ott. At that time my dad was driving a '63 Impala. He had a bunch of sucky cars after that, but I would love to have had that one.

My dad owned the '69 C10 short step I have now, and my grandfather had it before him - it was originally a 307/PG. My grandfather on my mom's side also had a '71 C10 lwb fleet w/307 & 3ott that he had as long as I can remember. He sold it to his brother in law in the late 90's after his hip gave out on him because he couldn't push in the clutch anymore. I have no idea where it is now.
