Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

i got some more work done, not much no pictures. Our garage is filled with things sparks could catch on fire... makes it sketchy to cut and grind, that being said im now going to have to rig up something so i can roll it outside to cut and grind. Shouldn't be a big deal, id rather do that, than burn the house down.

got the clip tacked in place. Really happy with how it turned out. Now to order air bags and get everything mocked up, up front.

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

Looking good. I can tell by the tack welds the full weld is gonna be nice.

The silver spanner wrench in the last pic looks like the one I use with my 4 1/2" grinder.

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

I would cut that pocket on the inside a little more. it looks like the bag is pretty close. you don't want that coming any where close to touching in case you hit a bump. just to be on the safe side.

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

i bought firestone f9000 sleeve type bags, doing a bag over axle inside the frame trails.

Tires on the rear end now are 27" which is the size ill be running. is my notch a little over kill? from the top of the axle to the bottom of the notch is 4.5"

not entirely sure how im going to do the bag, right now thinking mount it to the rear of the axle flush with the top.

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

I'm sure you're just planning and measuring, but why is the rear end housing up-side down?

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

mail man dropped off two packages today. Worked on getting the rear end square and level. will finish that up tomorrow, tack it to the frame so i can install my 4 link.

Sucks not having much time every night to work on it. But at least i have some time!

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

got the rear end true with in less than 1/32 of where it needs to be. Tacked it to the frame until i get the 4 link and notch welded into place.

Then stared at it and scratched my head on how to figure out ride height, so i can figure out where on my frame my front 4 link brackets need to be welded. And that brought me to scratching my head on trying to figure out how high of a notch i need.

Any one got any ideas on how i can figure out what my ride height is going to be, or how to figure out where to weld on the front 4 link bars.

Re: 1957 Chevy Longbed Project

I like how they bent the front cross brace for additional diff clearance.
