Re: So I ordered new mickey thompson tires ? Letters out ? Or blackwall ?

I'm generally a blackwall guy. But,some cases letters or whitewalls lend a hand to the look I'm after. While blackwalls will give the truck a more aggressive badass look, the RWLs will add a sport/performance edge to it that would fit a speed shop truck going into the '70s. I was hoping for wide tires & wheels with narrow whitewalls to keep the look it has. But,I still say no letters because you already have the white trim to focus on.
I see the writing on the wall. Love those white caps, grille, and bumpers, but more and more the truck is calling louder and louder for chrome.

I can say I probably would have not ordered those particular tires to run blackwall! -lol They have one of the coolest looking letter designs out there and its a shame to turn them in, but white letters and and painted rims with dog dishes don't jive with me. If you were running 8" Rallye's, I'd say white letters all the way. In fact, I don't even like the look of a Rallye wheel WITHOUT white letters.

Since you have plenty of white on the exterior now with your shop logo, I say black or it may just get to busy looking with the white lettering on the outside. John

I'd put the letters out if they were sponsoring me with free tires, or contingency money was involved.. Other than that, no advertising.

So do you take the bowties off the grill and the hubcaps, and grind the letters off of an Edelbrock intake or Holley carb too?

I run 275 60 15 on the rear on a 15x10 wheel on the front I have a 255 50 15 on 15x8 wheels. I used to have white letters out but like the blackwall look better. I do like white letters on my other car though

Its your truck, I think since you have a door logo, white letters may just accent them just right!!!

If not hey, take them back and politely ask the tire man to swap them over:-D

Diamondback? I figure about double. I want w-i-d-e and it seems Coker and all only offer the smaller original sizes.

Thank you very much I do appreciate the compliment....That picture was actually taken in the front lawn back when the grass was green last summer. Right now its still under a foot of snow. I am just waiting on spring to go cruising, that is once the rains come and wash the salt off the roads.
This truck has never seen salt and the paint is now 13 years old, it was an Arkansas truck.

I like the white wall look on these trucks. Reminds me of the style of the 70-80's. That's why we have these trucks, or at least why I have mine.

what is a blackwall? lol i have never had blackwalls on any car/truck i owned that truck would fit perfect with the sporty look of the white letters blackwalls are boring. you have alot of black already. i recently convinced my wife to dump her twenties and go with here factory sport wheel and white letters really helped her truck!

My '69 C10 has M/T Bias ply wides in the back (12") and front (8"). I'm not driving the truck yet as I just installed the engine.
Where did you find those tires? Currently my truck has the white letters out and I like the look, but have been unable to locate replacement white letter M/T's to replace what I have.

Re: So I ordered new mickey thompson tires ? Letters out ? Or blackwall ?

I agree sport wheels and RWL go hand in hand (although no letters looks cleaner). But,you have to look at the complete picture. No sporty racy vehicle ever came with white painted hubcaps, grille, bumper, and 6cyl/3spd. The shop truck,in it's true and actual use,was a utility vehicle for the shop. They couldn't help but put a few cool touches on their work horse, since a speed shop was owned by the motor head of motor heads type. But,their focus was on the hot rods/high performance vehicles and that was where the money went and where they sat when they wanted to get wild. I don't see too much black with blackwalls on a black truck. All tires are black,so they are just there...and the white trim with lettering breaks it up and gives the eye enough details to fix on

Re: So I ordered new mickey thompson tires ? Letters out ? Or blackwall ?

Heres my take...Micky Thompson's & BFGoodrich T/A Radials were the period correct "creme dela creme" tires anyone could put on their performance related vehicles when these trucks hit the streets. Preceded by Uniroyal "Tiger Paw's" or Coker "Red Line's" ...So I'm going to say this...If you turn your MT's white letter's in, you defeat the purpose and the expense of owning them! Show them baby's off! Now with that said, I just mounted four General 275/70R-16's on "Belle" (My DD/Tow Truck) sporting "period correct" Chrome Smoothies/w Baby Moons and turned the white letters in to make the wheels pop and the over sized meats deliver the full effect of the wheels with truck tires...I say "letters out" for performance, "in" for contemporary truck effect...Heres a couple of pics... "Sally" & "Belle" Bottom line is what pleases you! Also this. Fat tires, letters out, skinny tires, letters in...

As a matter of fact, within reason yes. All of the emblems are shaved from my truck. Under the hood it's plain chrome parts with no embellishment or logo's. I don't go as far as grinding the names off of things, but you're giving me ideas.

Why do you single out my post? Are you trying to ridicule me? If you prefer letters out, just say so.

What's your point? Do you even have a point?

Re: So I ordered new mickey thompson tires ? Letters out ? Or blackwall ?

lets see where to start.....
Black walls white letters ??????
Hmmmm
It is on what you like, and the look you are trying to make.

I guess I like the sleeper look not so in your face look. Sort of a subtle custom nice paint change the stance to give it attitude and enough motor to back it all up.
Drop it, big sway bars gas shocks, big brakes and more torque and hp. than I know what to do with.
No it doesn't have a HEMI just a little 496 driven by and old man with white hair.

To each their own there own just do it the way you want I did and it works fine.

Re: So I ordered new mickey thompson tires ? Letters out ? Or blackwall ?

I do like the clean sanitary look myself. Product companies don't pay me to run their parts LOL Back when I ran funny cars we actually got contingency money just for having the companies decal. Didn't matter if we even had their part on the car The only exceptions had been Hooker and Hoosier tire.
Hooker needed a contingency tag on the headers but if you didn't have one Hooker would send you one LOL
