Re: USA vs. Canada-built Trucks

I was wondering how many times "eh?" would show up in this thread. I was gonna say an optional hockey stick rack instead of a gun rack - not very good - eh?

BTW - why only some bolts metric and some bolts SAE on our trucks? E.G., air conditioning compressor bolts are metric.

What happened to the certain for sure plan the government had to make everything metric in U.S.? Out here in AZ, the gubment just spent big $$$ to change the Interstate 19 signs from kilometers back to miles on the way down to Mexico.

We were in transition (still are). Typically as new features or components are designed - those go metric, while everything else remains carryover. It is further complicated by building in multiple plants (like 7 or 10 separate locations) and the subsequent coordination involved.

We are inching our way towards the metric system....but we are still a mile away.

Re: USA vs. Canada-built Trucks

Mines a 1981 Canadian truck and the only metric bolts I have found so far are the three that hold the gas pedal to the firewall. Threw me the first time I went to remove it; 3/8 was too small and 7/16 was too large, ended up using a 10mm.

Z49 in the little list I have says "export, Canadian model mandatory base equipment" which I'm guessing means metric speedo and guages.

We didn't start getting metric speedos until 77/78.

Both of my trucks [1 gmc, 1 chevy, 20yrs apart] are built in Canada, sold in the US trucks.
