Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello again;

I have been working on the project.
Most of what I have been doing is thinking out just what to do next.
I'm still trying to work out the radiator system.
Been trying my hand at body work(slow time comesuming work)
I did try something on the rear fenders ! ! !
I found some Hi gloss clear spray. See new pic
Been trying to get some type of exhaust under the project before trying to start the engine( so I can hear the valve to set them).
Found a set of wheel(pic) just not able to use them on the rear end(clearence).
New set of rear 15' wheels (smoothies) fit under the fenders n clear the inside on the bed.
Have decided not to run wiper system at this time.
How just need to get the OLD heater system out of the cab.
Will post pic of the exhaust when I get it though out in welded together.
Installed the S-10 rear bumper to be able to move(push) the project in n out of the shop.

Hope you all enjoy the work in the info on my build.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello again.

Been working on the project.
I have been trying to think out how to paint the cab.
I found some "sand" color paint that matched the old color paint very close.(pic)
Have not though out what color to do the inside of the cab yet.
I have a bare metal paint on the roof of the cab.
Put a blk strip around the cab to brake the two different paints.
See the (pic) of the rear of the cab.
Still working on the body filler (not very good at it)
Have gotten the exhaust pipes built (from the exhaust manifold to pipes) see pics
Have found a set of 15' wheels for the rear(fit in the fender wells) They are what old school would call smoothies(no caps) see pic
Will use the S-10 radiator for now to start n drive the project.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello Everyone;

It has been awhile since I posted to my build.

I have been doing a lot of little thing to the project.

I have been working on the exhaust from the manifolds back.
With out the exhaust hooked up I could not hear the valve adjments( clicking)
Need to get a external 4to 12 lb elect fuel pump.
Got the radiator n cooling fans mounted, along with the surport bars from the cad.
Been working on removing the (old) heater, n installing a heater/ac unite from the van parts I keep. It has a 3speed blower system.
Just take a look at the pic n see what I have been doing.
Got the brake lines all installed, now just need to bleed the system.
Still need to get back to the body work also.

Also have some pic from the car show we had here last week end.
Hope you all enjoy them.

I"ll close for now.

Iceburgh:

I don't have a front end for the truck.
I'm going to put a rat rod radiator n grille on it later.
I'm just useing the big radiator to get the engine running n tuned up.
To also see if the trans is going to work also.
I just took what I had around here to build this project.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

With those big ugly A arms hanging out in the wind it is going with to look terrible. I saw some real ugly rat rods last weekend all with different frame frames scabbed under them or some sort of independent front end hung on them and they looked terrible along a couple of them being unsafe to drive on the street but that's anther story for another time.

I truly thing a big part of the rat rod thing is making one's rat rod uglier than the other guys ugly rat rod.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

mr48chevy;

I'm not too sure just how it will look when I'm done.
I just how that I'm having a lot of fun just building it.
With the S-10 frame it should drive n handle really good.
It has been a real learning experence for me.
Just look at the outside pic! It don"t look all that bad.
I had thought about chopping the top,just don"t have the knowlege to do that type of work.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

This is a binder but I am pretty sure that it is setting on an S10 frame

She wouldn't be smiling if she knew that the only reason I took the photo was for my how not to do things file.

Note that outside of the saw blade visor the first thing you see is the ugly steering box and A arms out in the way of everything else.

You want to know why I am not found of "rat rods" possibly the local rat rodders penchant for hanging non automotive junk on their rat rods has a lot to do with it.

Again, what do you see right out in the wind? Big old A frames and a steering box that is out of place.

Suspension on the sedan with rather cobbled steering.

Your choice, I am sure that the mouthbreathing WWE Tank top brigade will love it.

Keep at it! Whatever it ends up looking like it will still be better than watching television. Hope it's cool in your shop, it's getting in the high 90's here with alot of humidity.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

newfisher;

I still have a lot of small items to finish.
I would like to try to start this later this month.
I got the elect fuel installed,now I just need to plum in the fuel lines to carb.
Once I get the fuel line in n the carb refurbished,I'll be ready to try n start it.
Have oil press n temp gauges hooked up.

My shop is not that HOT, even with the temp up around 80/85. We have no
humidity here.

I will try to post some updated pic in a day or so.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello again;

I have not goten around to taking some up date pics.

I run in to a problem.
It was my own fault.
I ck the valves with a bench ck for leaks(No Problem)
Once I got the engine ready to start with the starter n dist installed.
I thought it a good ideal to preset the valves by hand be starting .
Sure glad that I did.
I found a bent valve on the #2 exhaust valve, found when pre setting the rockers n valves.
I got the head pulled off will try to redo the valve tomorrow.
Just so glad that I did not crank it over with the starter, It could have been very bad on the piston.

So I'm back to the build n rebuild part of this build again.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

mud man;

I pulled the head off the 305v8 (bend #2 valve. (pic)
I'm not going to chance this motor any longer.
I'm just glad that I did not crank with the starter.
Got the elect fuel pump plumed in (pic)
This way I can pull this 305 out n install the 350 out of my 78 chevy PU.
I'm going to have to pull n clean the 350 up. (pic)
I sanded the silver n black off the cab n went with the sandy color on the full cab. (pic)
It looks so much better.
I found some leather paint for the inside of the cab. (pic)
It looks like it will be just what I need.
How just need to find some seat covers for the (red) seats.
Got the wheels(smoothies) mounted(pic)
Just need to clean them up with some never dull.
Need to also find some (metal) caps.

Will I'll keep you informed on the 305 problem.
Have made up my mind to go with the 350 2bld. for now to drive it next month for my b-day to myself.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello Again;

It has been sometime since I posted.

I pulled the 350V8 out of the 78 PU.(pic)
Pulled the 305V8(bad) out of the rat rod.(pic)
Spent 2 days cleaning the 350V8
Repainted it gloss black
Installed the 350V8 in the rat rod.(pic)
Still need to clean up the 2bd carb.
Replace the gas cable n kick down bracket(had to find the right one)
While I have the D/S exhaust pipe out from under the cab,I will bend the pipe to clear the trans cross member.
Will replace the valve covers with the chrome ones.
Need to make a plate to fit the 2bd to the 4bd, to be able to use the chrome air cover.

Will redo the 305V8 heads with a set vortex heads to match the engine(orange) block. (pic)

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello again;

Got to work on the project today.

The 350 that I had in the PU had a stripped out starter bolt when i got the motor10yr ago. (pic)
I had to use a pontiac flywheel with n buick starter.
350V8 use cross mount bolt pattern
Had to go with the small flywheel
The buick use stright across bolt pattern.
Got the valve cover changed out to the chrome one (pic)
Got to get a cover for the fuel pump opening (pic)
Got the left side exhaust out after marking for the clearing on the trans cross frame.
Just hope the the starter hold up when I start up.
I had forgotten just what I had done to the starter 10yr ago. It has been working fine,just hope it continues to.

I also work on small engines to make extra cash.

Will try to get a better pic on the valve covers tomorrow.
