Well,

All my sheet metal work is done and I'm mostly through the rats nest of wiring. I managed to find two rust free truck doors, one in Libby Montana and another in Lethbridge Alberta. I cut them down and plug welded the striker plates on before painting the inside jambs. I'm a week or two away from having her running but about five months from completion. The new color, terrace blue looks very green at times but I like the old farm truck look. I hate wiring, especially when one of the previous owners has spliced and diced some of it.

It's starting to look like one of those ugly 90's VW's but at least the body is 100 % solid now.

Big day today! Got her fired up! The crate motor along with the TBI injection kit from affordable fuel injection works great. I just have to set my rocker arm lash and wait for the lifters to pump up but the truck runs like a top. I'm sold on the TBI set up, especially with a wife that can't grasp the concept of a choke.

until picked up a cheep parts truck mainly for the mint hard top as mine is in need of too much fibre glass and SMS plastic work for me. It came with a bunch of parts in it that I will be gradually unloading on the site. I'll eventually part out what I don't need but not until spring unless someone is in desperate need of a part. The body is toast but it came with several era correct cool items like the Hickey roof rack. tire mount, CB with old school whip antenna and a Ramsey worm drive 10000 Lb winch. I'll probably keep the old cool stuff but am undecided about the winch as it weighs a ton and my new springs may hate me.

That was a nice find! Keep me in mind if you sell the blue seat belts (looking on behalf of another member) or the old hatch.

How horrible of a thing about your hand injury. I could not imagine and will be extra careful after seeing that ��.

Will let you know what I have left after I get it all sorted out. All I need out of old hatch is the locking handle but it has a few cracks, your welcome to it if you want it. I can bring it down when we finally have that coffee.

I'm not a huge fan of roll cages but we do use the trucks I build on many family adventures. We travel well into the Canadian wilderness and every thing I would die or kill for is going to be riding under that flimsy fiberglass top. I think the cage takes away from the truck but It's piece of mind when I pull the off road trailer up that precarious goat trail in the middle of no where.

Next weekend. Box liner, paint the dash, door jambs, put the interior together and the new hard top.

Sprayed the box liner today. Some wicked solvents in that stuff! I couldn't smell it through the mask but the fumes were burning my eyes. Next step is paint the door jambs, paint the roll cage and put it all back together before I start on the body work.

Got the dash, door jambs and windshield frame all painted up. The cage is in. Shoulder pressing it and walking up a short step ladder was not the brightest idea. It was a little precarious stepping from the ladder to the tailgate but I made it! Of course all the holes are off just a hair after welding it all up solid but I'll get it bolted up. Sure would like a tach in the middle hole I'm going to have to get creative with the glove box door. It was either leave it on and not be able to open it or modify it so its useful.

The snow is quickly melting at the lower elevations. With the extreme temperature swings and rain on and off I'm not venturing too far into the back country this winter. I think we may see some catastrophic avalanches. All in all it's been a good winter though. I hope to have the Jimmy on the road by spring so I can get the fly rod out earlier if its a warm spring. There are a few very nice back country lakes I can get the 4x4 tent trailer into and have them all to my self. You never know, I may bag a couple wild turkeys this year. I give it a month before I get the first pinstripe in the new paint. Oh well, no point in building it if your nor going to enjoy it.

Got the new windshield in and hard top bolted down. The back hatch for the hard top was a corroded mess so I pulled the inner latch workings out of the other badly cracked hatch and replaced them. Thats a job I hope to never do again. Talk about building a ship in a bottle. I mock mounted the swing away tire mount which proved to be a pain but it's done. I'm close to primer after a month of body work. Still no rust surprises just a mess of bondo I cut out to find a mess of slide hammer holes. I welded them all up and used a cold wet rag to shrink the metal back into shape. Whoever did that work had no business using a slide hammer. But then again, back when it was done nobody cared about trucks. I'm hoping to have it painted by the end of April.

Hand is doing ok all things considered I should buy a lottery ticket and a nice bottle of scotch for the surgeon.
